Hi- For frozen homemade baby food I plan on thawing the cubes in the fridge overnight - my question is: do i then heat it after it has been thawed? and if so, how should i heat it (if I don't want to use the microwave)? in a bowl of warm water, etc?

thanks!

What can I do next?

Depends on the food. If it's a veggie then you'll want to warm it. If it's fruit it'll be up to you if baby likes chilled food or warm it enough to take the chill off. I usually warmed enough to take the chill off at first and then got them accustom to room temp and then chilled from the fridge.

You can use the microwave or you can use a bowl of hot water but it takes longer. You can even let it sit room temp for a bit to take the chill off, just stir it now and then.

If you use the microwave, just pour the portion you're using into a glass or ceramic bowl, and then test it on your wrist.

Made my own baby food too! I never bothered thawing them. Just tossed a frozen cube in the microwave oven but you could always put the cube in a bowl over a pot of boiling water. That should warm it up nicely.

Although it will take longer you can use a bowl of warm water. Also on the stove :) You shouldn't have to do it more than a few minutes as you don't want the food too hot anyway.

I made my own baby food too and I just thawed it and fed it to him. Warming it up isn't necessary because everything has already been cooked and you only make more work for yourself esp if you are away from home and don't have a way to warm it up. It's really a personal preference, but my son had never had it warmed up so he didn't know any different.

Glad to hear you are making your own baby food! If your baby doesn't mind cold food there's no need to heat them. However, if you find you need to heat them, don't bother thawing them in the fridge. It takes less then 30 seconds in a microwave to warm a cube of food.

If you are not inclined to use a microwave, you might consider using a baby bottle warmer that accomodates glass bottles or food jars. There are a couple of these on the market but MAKE SURE it is okay to heat glass! Not all are made to do this and will crack glass. A third option is to use the double boiler method via stove top (a bowl of food over simmering water, look this up for best practices).

I usually just set it on the counter for an hour or so (its fruits or veggies here, never anything added but some water for consistent texture...I don't do entree's...when they are big enough for that food its table foods here and self feeding), so its not going to spoil. All of these were never refrigerated from the grocery store/garden/plants. Then I only serve with baby cereal mixtures, so I make that part over-warm to make up the temp diff, if any, when I combine the 2. Always works for me thru 14 years of daycare children, plus my own child.

I LOVED making my son's food!

I recommend giving foods at the temps they would naturally be served (ex: fruits slightly chilled, meats and veggies warm).

I heated my son's food in the micowave in 10 second increments

I made my own homemade baby food.I would put it in a small saucepan with a bit of water, and warmed it that way. Most of the time, I used the microwave tho. I bought a bunch of small glass bowls with plastic lids. I would freeze and warm in the same bowl.

I would warm it to at least room temperature and maybe a bit warmer if you want. You could always just leave it out on the counter for a bit before the feeding so you don't have to heat it at all. It won't spoil in that short amount of time, even if it's like an hour.
