I have this crazy headache on the left side of my head since Monday. It hurts when I cough, laugh, move suddenly.
I am not usually prone to such bad headaches.
I am 14 weeks pregnant.
Are pregnant women more prone to headaches and what can I do since I can't take meds ?
Thanks in advance

tylenol is paracetamol in the UK

To know... prenatal vitamins give many women headaches (sometimes sick headaches)

I don't know if they have chiropractors there but chiropractic is very effective at helping headaches AND is Drug-free. It may also help your delivery go easier as having your pelvis aligned is beneficial. Also it will help your back feel better as the baby gets bigger.

Very normal. I chose not to take anything for the first trimester, although your doc will probably okay either acetaminophen or ibuprofen, I can't remember which (Excedrin, aspirin and several others are not recommended). A hot shower helps a good bit, but provides only temporary relief. Heat was my favorite "go to".

Hi B.,

Ginger supplements or ginger tea will help a headache. Very safe during pregnancy as it is given for morning sickness as well. Your headache could be coming from anything, but probably the extra hormone activity :) Hang in there....this too shall pass!

Congratulations!

Oh do I know your pain!! I am 26 weeks now and haven't had them in a little while. But when I was around 14 or so weeks, I was getting KILLER headaches like once a week. I would wait and wait and wait for it to go away and it wouldn't! Normally, I never get headaches. I am also not a fan of pills. However, I toughed them out as long as possible. Then took 2 Regular strength Tylenol. Which is totally ok per my OBGYN. She also told me to drink a little caffine, whether coffee or a coke along with the tylenol. Its worked everytime. Good luck and feel better.

I had terrible headaches in the beginning of both of my pregnancies too. I found that my sinuses were also stuffier than they used to be also, so taking hot showers, drinking hot tea and irrigating my nose with saline solution helped me some. It sounds from your description that you might have pressure in your head (from your sinuses?), so I'd give this a try first. When all else failed, though, I agree with the other moms--take some tylenol (Acetaminophen is the generic drug name).

You can take Tylenol. The Rapid Release ones helped me from time to time. Unfortunately, because of the surge in hormones you are more prone to headaches. I suffer from migraines and couldn't take any prescription when I was pregnant, but by the grace of God I never really got a migraine. Anyway, what I did as preventative that seemed to help or at least psych me out, was I would put an ice pack or a baggie of ice directly on the point of pain. I would just lay there with it on and it worked wonders for me.

During the first 2 trimesters - you can take ibuprofen (motrin) or acetaminophen (tylenol). Last trimester is Tylenol only.

I have migraines off and on and take medications for it, but since I am pregnant I cannot take any of my stronger meds and have had to make due with the 2 above mentioned drugs.

Hopefully - they work for you!! With all the blood volume changes, hormonal cycle changes etc - YES, pregnant women are more prone to headaches.

I know you've already read this & responded yourself but I wanted to add that along w/the increased hormone levels, dehydration can also cause headaches during pregancy. While preggo w/our first son, I had bad headaches & could track it back to not having drank enough water during the day. I also took regular strength Tylenol which my OB said was OK. Ask for a similar product & make sure you stay hydrated.
