Having a Baby Before Disney

My family (mom, dad, brother, his family, etc) are going on a family trip to Disney in a few years. Hubby and I would like to have a baby (if it works out) before then. We'll also have a 5.5 and 3.5 year old at that time. Trying to figure out when to go off birth control so I can ensure I am not pregnant during our trip and that the baby is at least 2 months old (if not older).

In your opinion, what is the best 'baby' age to go to Disney? And I don't mean for them, I mean for us? I think if the baby is 2-6 months, that would be the best age for us to attend to the other kids but yet the baby is not as mobile as a 8-12 month old. Also, a younger baby sleeps a lot so it wouldn't be as much work for us (hope this doesn't sound bad).

If we don't get pregnant before we go, it's not a big deal - we'll just try after we get back. But because we know WHEN we're going, we kind of have to have a plan of when I should go off birth control, therefore I have an 'idea' of how old the baby will be when we'll be going. Still with me? LOL

I would love to have a baby next summer and then go back to work for a few months and have the baby be 5 months old but obviously I can't plan that for sure. It took me 3 months to concieve the first two times but who knows if it'll take longer or shorter the next time around?

I should also say we're going in January so hopefully it won't be as hot or crowded. And there will be a total 7 adults with my husband and I and four kids (minus the baby) so hopefully there will be enough people to assist if one of us has to stay at the hotel with the baby. We've already discussed going each day in the morning then coming back around lunch to rest/nap/refresh so we can go back at night. I'm sure it'll be exhausting with two OR three kids but I can't wait!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your input!! We do have an Ergo that I (or hubby) plans on wearing if the baby gets tired of being in the carseat. We also have a Bjorn type carrier that he/she can be in.

Thanks for the input on the cold/rain. Never thought about that for Florida (we are going to this one - not Cali).

Actually, and according to my experience ( I have been about 3 times) I don't think babies and small children do enjoy Disney or any huge park where you have to walk and sweat a lot, get into crowded bathrooms to have the chance to change the baby, etc....EVEN during NOT a peak season, Disney was crowded. Probably is just my experience, I just know that when the kids are over 4 years old (some get scared with the tall Disney characters all around) may be older...they have so much fun and really enjoy these parks with so much amusement and even ourselves like grown ups have a really good time.
Some other families may have had a good time with little and small children, I don't know, my sister in law did it..and she said it was fine.
Mc Mama, just be sure you have plenty of water and several breaks to sit down. You WILL need the stroller, and very comfortable casual shoes......
Take care,

Disney is awesome. We bought our passes in December (we live in Orlando) when I was 6 months pregant and we had a then 22 month old. We have also brought our new daughter (now 7 weeks) to Disney, she has been 3 or 4 times now and we are going again on Saturday and then again Monday.

If you do have a little one I strongly suggest getting a wrap that you can wear the baby in, it has been amazing for us! Makes it so easy, especailly since our little one doens't really enjoy her carseat for long periods of time.

Also packing for central FL in Jan is aweful it can be in the 20s or in the 70s. Make sure you bring warm enough clothes!!! I know that being from Ill it might not seem like 20s is cold, but I swear it is a different kind of cold. (I am also from Ill origionally) and I could not believe how cold it gets here!

ADDED: I was reading some of the other responses and I just wanted to put in that your baby can go on rides. Especially if you are wearing the baby in the Ergo you can just wear them on the rides. And you won't have to put your 5.5 year old on a ride with a stranger. My husband, my two year old, me and the baby all ride in the same car on all rides at Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and the few rides at Hollywood Studios. Most of the things to do for that age at HS are shows, the kids (i'm not sure about the 5.5 year old) won't really want to, or be tall enough for things like Tower of Terror and Rockin Rollercoaster. Disney would never make a small child ride with a stranger.
Also I just looked it up, Disney cruises DO allow swim diapers in the poolsCarnival, Princess, NCL and Royal Caribbean do not allow swim-diapered infants in any pools, including splash pools.

We went to Disneyland with our two when the baby was six weeks old. She pretty much slept for six hours straight in the sling. If she got fussy, I just nursed her while I was wearing her. It was awesome! We just went back with them, and the baby was 13 months old. I thought it would be harder to deal with a mobile (crawling) baby, but it wasn't bad. She mostly stayed in the stroller or Ergo.

Which Disney are you going to - Florida or California? The one thing about Disneyland in January is that there is higher chance of rain. Otherwise, it really shouldn't be very crowded at all.

I lost you 1/2 way through this, but I asked my OBGYN last month "when" I should go off the pill to try and get pregnant sometime late summer/early fall and he told me to finish my "June pill pack" and then see what happens.

I would think that a baby would be okay in a stroller just looking at things until they are old enough to walk. We took our son to the county fair when he was 4 months old and he LOVED looking around and riding the merry-go-round.

Disney is a really fun place - for your 5 year old. Any younger than that and they can get really scared. When ours were little we took 2 - 6 year olds, a 3 year old and an infant. I had to carry the infant most of the day which wasn't a big deal and the 6 year olds had a blast, but the 3 year old was so scared that he kept having to be held which ended up with my husband having a patch of hair gone on his leg from the constant up and downs. He would not stay in the stroller at all and mostly had a miserable time. We took him back when he was 6 and it was the time of his life!

We also did the morning and evening thing - with lunch and naps between - that sure helped me out. Also, almost all of my sweatshirts are Disney because it really does get cold there - especially in January, And it is usually a rainy nasty cold so be prepared.

I found that it was easiest to travel with a baby under 5 or 6 months, before they are really aware of their surroundings. I would say 3-4 months is ideal - of course some 10 month olds will sleep anywhere, anytime (not mine - only in his own bed!) but the little ones will sleep so easily in a sling or stroller, and yes, easier for you while they're not mobile. You can get away without having a crib too, just some padding on the floor of your hotel room for a bed, if they roll over the floor is just a couple of inches down.
