We did a mad science party last year and it was fun but the kids got antsy (they were 6 yr olds) and they wanted to actually do instead of watch. This year we did a Star Wars party and hired Darth Vader. All the kids (boys and girls) thought it was awesome. http://www.darklord4hire.com/

I've been to one. It was fun and educational. The kids really enjoyed it. Not sure how much it cost.

You might want to consider the birthday parties offered by the Museum of Nature & Science in Dallas. Professionally done and less stress on your part. See about them here: http://natureandscience.org/kids/birthdays.asp

Yes, we had one for my son's 9th birthday, about 6 years ago. It was a huge success. The woman who did it was great, kept the kids involved and interested, full of oohs and ahs. At the end, she took them in the back yard and had my son help her make cotton candy, which everyone ate with their ice cream and cake. It was one of our most successful parties.

We've been to one and it was a lot of fun. They offer different packages geared toward your age group. The kids got to touch and smell things and there was an experiment for all of the kids to do. They really enjoyed themselves. I've seen their ad in those magazines you pick up at the Dr's office.

I would highly suggest thinking twice about using Mad Science. They didn't show up for my daughter's 7th birthday party yesterday! The emergency number they had on their office number was the wrong number! And yes, I checked the number several times. You can only imagine the mess of having 15 kids at your house and very upset little girl. Today I found other bad reviews on them. I just wish I would have seen them sooner before they made my daughter's birthday party a nightmare.

We never had a Mad Science party, but they used to come to my daughters elementary school and do week long after school programs. She loved it! They did a great job.

The parties are great for elementary age kids. However if you are on a tight budget you can always put together a party yourself for less than 1/3 of the cost. Everything they do can be done at home. The pluses of having them do it is they entertain the kids while you take a well deserved break. They are good about keeping it fun, interactive, and they are required to clean up after themselves. If you do have them out make sure you tip the person who comes these are mostly college kids who are working their way through school. If you are in Dallas county I recommend Ted, Hazel, or Joe Diaz. They all work at our schools and are fantastic. If they are available you can request them.

Hi L.,
We just had a Mad Science party for my 7 year old son. We used the Mad Science of Dallas. It was quite a hit with about 18 children who were all 6 and 7 year olds. I rented the Armadillo Room at the TMC in Plano which worked out perfectly. They had sink and electrical outlet which was a necessity for the scientists. A few things, we had a large group and I anticipated that they would not all arrive right on time. So I put a science table out with about 4 or so activities. For example I had lab aprons to color with fabric markers, molecules building(toothpicks, tootsie rolls and gumdrops worked well). and magnet discovery. It occupied the first 15 minutes until all arrived. The scientist was great but we had an active bunch and an assistant would have been helpful. I did the platinum plan with two extras. The balls and the cotton candy. We had about 15 extra minutes after cake so the table came in handy again I am not sure that I would do the balls again, between cake and cotton candy there were 18 balls flying all over the room because of the sugar high. His part took up about 60 minutes, I thought it would be more like 90 minutes.

I would recommend Mad Science in general but with some caveats. It was more work than expected with such a large group but the kids loved it. I would be more than happy to offer more details off line. I did some creative things for cake and drinks that the children liked and passed some times as well. Email me at ____@____.com you have any other questions.

Hi there L., I unfortunately don't have a review for such a party but I did find websites that give you great ideas for this themed party. I just googled 'Mad scientist Party for Kids' and a bunch of sites popped up. Here are a few of them, perhaps there you can find some reviews. BTW, this is an awesome idea for a party theme. I'm going to pitch it to my son for his next birthday. Hope you find what you are looking for. Have a great Sunday, T.

You should look back thru the archives on this site cause I know I've seen some cute ideas before. One thing I thought of is that you could go to Hobby Lobby and get craft cover-ups and write each kid's name on them to be "lab coats" and on the better homes and gardens site, I saw something around halloween where you can make this punch that smokes out the tops of the glasses which would be fun for a mad science party. Anyway, good luck!
