Demanded 3 Weeks Old Baby

I have a demanded breastfed baby who drinks almost every hour. He's 3 weeks old. He drinks within 10 mins and shut his mouth after he satisfied. I tried to latch him to suck but he got no response. But after an hour, he demanded again.
I felt my breast not able to generate enough milk within that hour since my breast is not engorged.
I tried to pump out and the amt is not much as before.

What can I do next?

It's rough, but you just have to hang in there. This is not that unusual for a 3 week old. It might take another week or two for him, but soon he will be eating more at each feeding and eating a little bit less often.

Please do not worry about not producing enough milk. As long as he has enough wet diapers, he's doing just fine.

Talking to a lactation consultant is a great idea. This will give you a much better idea of what is normal and ok and will give you a chance to ask specific questions.

You need to talk to a lactation consultant. His input is determined by his output. He may certainly need to nurse every hour or a least every two. If he is making lots of diapers, then he is fine. Your body will figure out you are not feeding an army and stop being engorged all the time. You should talk to the consultant to get a better feel for normal, if you are concerned. You may also want to read kellymom.com for information on newborns. The pump will NEVER be as efficient as a baby. Don't use that to judge what he can get. Some babies nurse very efficiently and quickly (mine did) and some take much longer. He's probably just efficient.

I agree about getting a lactation consultant. La Leche League or the hospital where you gave birth can help.

Your baby is feeding on demand. (That's how you say it.) The reason he is doing this is because he won't stay awake long enough to empty your breast. And he's getting only the "front milk" that is very thin and his tummy digests it very quickly. If he nurses longer, he will get the "hind milk" (the milk that is heavier) and it will hold longer in his tummy so that he won't be hungry as fast.

If you don't help him drink more at each nursing, your breasts will not make enough milk. Getting a lactation consultant would help you. If you are not making enough milk, and your baby is constantly hungry, you will need to buy formula to feed him. Little tiny babies can get in trouble fast if they don't get enough breastmilk or formula.

Pretty normal for an newborn. All of them are demanding because it is a matter of survival instinct right now. Keep at it. I know it feels endless but this time will go by pretty quickly.

You should not be engorge if your production is regulated. The way to tell if you're making enough milk is if your child is growing and using up diapers on a regular basis. Many women can't pump for beans, so you can't tell by that.

This is normal for a newborn. His tummy is very very small, so he needs to eat often.

As long as your baby is satisified after each feeding and is having wet diapers, you are making enough milk.

It sounds like you are doing great. Hang in there. It will get easier as he grows and his tummy gets bigger.
