Cell Phones and Cancer - Harrisburg,PA

I read some article that associated cancer with cell phones due to the RF it radiates and all the wireless technology, etc. It causes DNA damage which ultimately leads to cancer. They recommend children under 6yrs not be so exposed to the radiation because they absorb this quicker. How do you guys feel about that knowing that research is new and we may not know for another 10-20yrs what effect if any it really had on us...especially on our children.

What can I do next?

I don't know but I wish someone could use this article to scare those who constantly yack on the phone while they're driving (and not paying attention) to hang up!

It will be interesting to see what happens within the next 10 to 15 years. So many young people are attached to electronics for the better part of their waking hours. Let's hope and pray the results of this are negative or there will be a LOT of sick people in the near future.

I read that article and thought it was interesting that they weren't just worried about cell phones, but all of our now wireless connections- which we are almost totally surrounded by. That is some of the drawbacks of having technology advance so quickly- we really have had no time to see any negative impacts this stuff has on us, or children and our environment.
I personally do not like cell phones for kids- but it has nothing to do with the radiation- I just don't think kids need that access. If they want to call a friend and invite them over- they can use my phone!
I also thought it was interesting that they also suggested not using baby monitors because it also emits radiation and they are not sure the effects that might have on the baby. I used one for my now 10 yr old- he seems to be fine. I didn't use one for any of my other children, mainly because I realized that once you become a M. you receive super sensitive hearing anyway!

honestly they can find something wrong with everything...so the best thing is to use common sense. i dont think children (especially small ones) need to be on a cell phone.

Actually, it's not that new. The safety of cell phones has been questioned and tested for the last decade, and the conclusions vary (and you're right, we probably won't know for sure for another 20 years). Some recommendations have been: Don't just wear your wireless earpiece around all the time, use speakerphone whenever possible, and also use your land-lines for calls when you're at home. Good luck.

This really isn't anything new. I remember reading/hearing about this arround 5 years ago. True, we really won't know long term effects for many years to come.

Unless you want to live your life in a bubble, you just need to use common sense and your best judgement. I don't think it's really necessary for a child to talk on a cell phone on a regular basis. Like most things... use in moderation.

Like anything and everything that is new and not natural, use sparingly and with common sense. Most really young children that have their own cell hones have them and use them only to update their parents as to where they are and changes in schedules..

It is like laptops causing burns on thighs? How long does a person have it actually on their laps to cause burns?

I remember when "Radio Headphones" were thought to cause problems back in the day.. It is always something..

I believe using a cell phone once in a while would cause no damage. I never got one for my children, I was always wondering myself, with all these kids attached to them for hours, right by their brains.
I hardly ever use mine, just for emergencies......
