Best Stool for Toilet Training a 2 Year Old

We're looking for a stool for our 2 year old son to put his feet on while sitting on a grown up's toilet (don't plan to use toilet seat for toddlers). I looked at various stools at Amazon and ToysRUs websites, but reviews for many of them say they're too short for 2 year olds to sit on toilet and put their feet on. Others without those kinds of reviews are still about the same height as those with reviews that say they're too short. Almost seems like none of them are tall enough.

Any recommendations on toilet training stools that worked? Never thought finding a stool was this difficult. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We just used a random stool from the kid's section at Ikea. Slip proof, easy clean plastic, cost less than $5, and we had it for many years, worked like a charm :)
My MIL (a military mom of 8) just used whatever she had around the house if that helps!

a cinder-block is the most stable 'stool' i've ever come across. Others slip out from under the kiddo or can be off-balanced and the kid falls. Cinder-blocks may not be 'pretty' but they sure do work.

and I know you said you aren't doing a child seat, but this is a wonderful alternative. No seats to remove or put on. It's one seat with three parts - adult seat, child seat, and lid. I love ours. And their customer service is excellent. http://www.bemisseats.com/nextstep/

added: while my son sits there on the pot to poop, he uses a barstool to 1. prop his feet onto and 2. play with his Leap Pad. The rings on the stool are perfect height for his feet to rets on and the top of the stool is perfect height to play with his leap pad while he gets all the poops out. It's his special toy that stays in the bathroom at all times. The wooden barstool works great for feet and table-top purposes.

Just go to your local neighborhood home improvement center, and get one there.
That is what we did.
A wooden stool that you just put together.
Or one already made.
Real easy.
You just stick the legs of the stool into the holes on the back, with wood glue.
That's it.

A stool is a stool.

Just measure your child... while sitting on the toilet, what the height is of the bottom of his feet.
That is how "tall" your stool would need to be.

But then again, my kids never needed a stool to put their feet on while sitting on the toilet. Although I tried. They did not want it.

We got the double step white one at Target for $25 when DD was 2 and she's 4 now and still uses it. It's stood the test of time and it's perfect height for her then and now. I think it was the circo brand one.
It is similar to this one:

I can tell you not to get a storage stool with an unhinged lid for that purpose. We used the plastic The First Years one, and if they don't step down squarely in the middle, the lid pops off on the non-weighted side and the stool tips. Look for a sturdy hand-made wooden one at a craft store/show. We got ours from a vendor on the floor of a mall in St. Louis Park around Christmastime a few years ago, and it worked well.

Take your child with you when shopping for a stool, that way he can try getting up on it and you can have him sit in a chair or stool that approximates the height of your toilet to gauge the "fit." Look for something sturdy that will "grow" with him as he may be using it a couple of years, or if your husband or you are handy with tools make him one. My older kids used the same wooden one even though they were 6 years apart, and we had it in the house for about 15 years before I finally passed it one to someone else for their child to use.

I bought a folding step stool at Bed Bath & Beyond for my daughter to use at the toilet and sink and it works great. Love that it folds to stay out of the way when she's not using the bathroom. It's light enough for her to move and use herself, so she can get it out, unfold it and put it away on her own. Plus, she can get it to use in other rooms and carry it herself. She's been using it since she was 2 and is of normal height, as are our toilets and sinks.

Hi - we tried a couple different seats but finally stayed with a toilet seat we got at Lowes where there are 2 size seats in one stool. The kid size seat fits up in the lid when not in use. This was a lot cleaner than taking off a seat and sitting it on the floor or having to dump one of those potty chairs. LOVE IT!!

The step stool we uses in the beginning was a white step stool we got at Home Depot that's 11 inches tall and 12x12 inches surface. Once our boys got tall enough (and accurate enough to pee standing up), then the Sesame Street step stool at Walmart put them at the right height for standing.

Hope this help!! Good luck.
