Potty Chair Suggestion for Toddler Girl Who Is Tall

Hi Moms,

Do any of you have any suggestions for potty chairs that worked well for your tall toddler girls? I like the Baby Bjorn seat, but the reviewers say they are uncomfortable for girls, especially if your child is tall. I like the Baby Bjorn seat because of it's simple design. I don't want to buy multiple potty chairs, so I am hoping to get some good advice. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks in advance,

A.

My little girl is tall as well and instead, we bypassed the potty chair and bought a different toilet seat that has the toddler seat built into it - I believe One Step Ahead makes it. You can also buy potty seat inserts as well. With a step stool, she loved going to the bathroom like a big girl and there was no transitioning from potty chairs to the big toilet. Best of luck!

We have a 19-months old and have been using potty chairs for a while - she is tall (100th % of her age group) but has no problems with either Baby Bjorn or Ikea potty chairs; we have two (one for upstairs and one for downstairs). Both are very easy and quick to clean. Idea chair is a bit more angular (but cheaper). Of course it might depend on the age of your daughter, but I would think that it really is not a big deal for the children. A note: when we are in public places, I have no problem taking her to the restroom and holding her above the toilet seat while she uses it. I don't let her sit on a public toilet however because of the germs.

Hi, I just wanted to add my voice to the "skip the potty chair" choir. We bought an Elmo seat at Babies R Us that fit on our own toilet seat and she learned to go potty on the real thing. I was never very interested in cleaning out a potty chair so I figured if it worked I would go with it. My daughter was 2 when we started potty training. We have little stools that she uses to get on the potty and to reach the sink to wash her hands. She will be 3 in September and doesn't need the stool for the potty anymore, just for the sink.

Good Luck,
D.

I have used our potty chairs through 3 kids and I like it. My little ones used it short or tall. It's the Graco SOft seat potty. Here are some reviews:http://www.epinions.com/review/Graco_Training_Rewards_Sof...

Good luck!

My daughter was very short BUT she didn't like the potty chairs at all. We used one of those padded seats for the regular toilet and put a sturdy 2 step stool for her. She actually only would use "her Dora seat" so I lugged it around in a big hand bag for months---but I digress. Try that-- for a taller girl in might be more comfortable than having her knees jammed into her chin by sitting so low to the floor.

We used and loved the bjorn potty seat. My daughter has consistently been in the 85th percentile for height and had no problems.

My kids refused to use a potty chair. I had purchased the soft toddler seat to place on the toilet and they were fine with it. We actually had a really low toilet so it worked out great. 2 weeks after we got into out flat in our building, one of my girls decided she was ready to go. She in turn toaught my son. And we didn't have to show them how to switch.

Skip the potty chair and buy a padded ring for the regular toilet (some come w/handles) for about $8.

My older daughter is only average height but we used the Baby Bjorn potty seat & loved it for ease of use (for her & for us to wash). It is very easy to clean which I liked & sturdy as we are getting ready to start using it for my second daughter and it is still in great shape. I would definitely recommend!

I would recommend the padded potty seats that go directly on to your toilet. Some have handles, some play music and they come in all the fun characters. My daughter has a blues clues one and is begging me for a princess one like her friend. That way you don't have to transition from the little potty to the big potty. I also bought a portable potty seat that folds for public restrooms, especially port-o-potties at carnivals, parades etc.

Good luck, I am in the midst of potty training my daughter too.

I agree, skip the potty chair. Just buy a toilet seat ring and a some kind of a step and you're set.
You won't have to wash the potty.
That's what I did with both my kids and it was great.

We had the Baby Bjorn seat for my daughter and it worked fine. My daughter's in the 95th percentile and seemed perfectly comfortable on it. I can't see why height would make much difference with it.

Not sure why it would be uncomfortable for girls? My 29 month old has been using both the baby bjorn potty chair as well as potty topper since she was 14 months and likes both just fine.

I have a very tall girl. I like to make life easy for myself. I didn't use a potty chair. A stool in front of the toilet works great. Plus kids potty training have to check out every bathroom everywhere! Say your running into the store for one thing. She will have to go. Do you have to bring that thing in with you?? Potty training took about 3 weeks. Jelly beans, I don't give my kid junk food so she was all about the jelly beans. 3 for going-1 for making it,1 for wiping and 1 for flushing. Pooping is the hardest part- 2 hand fulls. Then when we were done. I just "forgot" to buy them at the store. Simple easy and done. At Dominicks in the travel sized section they sell toliet seat covers in a handy purse sized container. I think Charmon. Sometimes they can't wait for you to make the cocoun on the toilet. L.

My three are all very tall for their age. My oldest learned to use the potty when she was 2.5 (day time and 3.5 night) and never used any potty seat/chair. My twins learned to use the potty at 2 and we had a bunch of hand me down potty options. and now at 2.5 they all use the big potty too and one of them is night potty trained as well as day. But I don't think it matters much which one you use.

I too used the padded seat that goes on the regular toilet. I just figured they had to eventually use the regular toilet at some point, and less clean up.

I LOVE the Baby Bjorn set... and my kids are very tall.

There is a similar one from IKEA that is also very easy to clean. But the Baby Bjorn is SUPER easy to clean and it's really easy to use.

What works best for both my girl and boy is just one of those padded potty seats that fits into a regular toilet seat and a step stool. It is also a lot cleaner and you don't have an extra toilet in your bathroom. Good luck!
