Hey mommys! I have a 4 week old daughter...she normally sleeps 6 hours each night before waking up which is awesome but when she wakes up at 3-4am she does NOT want to go back to sleep and just cries and cries. Am I doing something wrong?

What can I do next?

That is pretty typical at that point... you're lucky to get the 6 hour stretch.

You're not doing anything wrong. Babies that young just don't have the same day/night schedule as we do. 6 hours is a really long time for a newborn to sleep! After you feed her, I would just keep the lights low and spend that time snuggling with her/walking with her until she'll go back to sleep. I don't think there's much more you can do! If she seems like she's uncomfortable/in pain during that time then maybe talk to your dr about whether she might be having reflux or gas or something.
Good luck!

It's hard to say what to do when I am not ____@____.com see why she isn't going back to sleep for you sooooo I going to, 'wing' it a little, if you have already tried my suggestions (and those that will certainly follow) then perhaps you should talk with your Ped..

Make sure she is clean & dry, warm her formula (nil if bf'g), wrap her in a blanket & keep her close as she nurses (either the bottle or breast), only give her about two oz @ a time if bottle & then burp her, if breast make sure to try & burp her as sometimes they get too much milk when they begin & so they get air as well as milk, stay with her wrapped up comfortably until she goes back to sleep again, a rocking chair is a wonderful thing here.

I hope you both get some relief & some rest soon. Congrats on your new little girl! :)

6hrs is a LONG time for a baby to sleep, baby is probably hungry and needs some stimulation - cuddle, singing etc and is probably not ready to go back to sleep yet for a few hours. This is all part of the process of a new baby - congrats. Make sure you swaddle (Miracle Blanket is really good for this) and put baby in a swing with some music on.

You are not doing anything wrong. 6 hours is a long stretch. She thinks that is time for her to wake up.
Try and keep her up later at night, that way she wakes up at 5/6am instead of 4.
You are lucky she is sleeping that much though.....try not too worry. She is still very very young, and is still trying to get used to this whole 'sleeping' thing.

I had babies that did that and so I kept them up until about midnight or they woke for that feeding and then they slept a bit longer each week but if they wake that early and won't go back to sleep you are up too or try a baby swing beside you but be sure you keep an eye on the baby too. It's just part of getting the schedule for an infant and it takes time. If you could get her to eat more at the first part of the night then she might wake later but you still get the same amount of sleep really. Soon she'll go longer. Be patient.
