Baby's Reaction to Mom Leaving

I've been back at work 3 days and my 3 month old baby girl will barely look at me and gets fussy really easily with me in the evenings. We were together all summer and she was just really becoming vocal these last few weeks before I started work, cooing and shrieking/laughing with me. Has anyone else experienced this? She is fine all day--with my Mom this week, starts daycare next week. I was able to sneak home yesterday during lunch and she was just laughing and smiling but stopped when she saw me. I feel as though the bond we had is slipping away. Any suggestions? Thanks

What can I do next?

Don't worry! I have a 2 years old. He went to daycare at 10 weeks. He would not look at me either. I think he was angry with me for leaving him. Now, he still hates daycare, but can't wait to see his momy. This will pass.

I had the same situation for about 2 weeks after I went back to work. It was terrible on top of the guilt of going back to work. My daughter would scream when I got home and couldnt be consoled. It went away and my dr. said it was her way of dealing/remembering that you were gone all day. She is now 2, has been with a nanny and now in preschool/at home with nanny and she definitely knows Mom and comes running with hugs and kisses. My advice, don't count the hours but make it quality. As they get older, they remember the quality/fun experiences the most.

No matter what, your baby will always, always know that you are Mommy and be bonded to you. It's normal for both of you to have mixed feelings about your going back to work, but in a couple of weeks your routine will be established and things will go much more smoothly. Just be sure that when you pick her up that you devote a few special minutes to give her your undivided attention before you get busy with dinner, phone calls, bringing all your stuff in from the car, etc. That "welcome back" time will be something that she looks forward to every day.
