Automatic Cat Litter Box

Hi there ! Just had to add my two cents ! I have had kitties all my life , heard bad things about the littermaid so never had one BUT I do have what's called the Omega Paw and I absolutely love it ! it's covered and you roll it one way and then back and all the poop and pee clumps are in this slide out tray ! You just dump the tray ! It is really neat and nice clean litter is left to use again .... I just dump the tray into a plastic bag and discard ! It comes in two sizes and I got the bigger one but now wish I would have gotten the smaller only having one Kitty . I got it on Amazon.

I had a LitterMaid and hated it. They cost as much as a half of a year of litter along with having to by replacement containers. They are twice as big as a regular litter box with more mess and take twice the litter too. My cat was afraid of the ramp or something and jumped over the side making more of a mess. Not all of the mess would get scooped up because the poles that rake it up are too far apart and you would still have to scoop. I'd much rather change the litter weekly (for 1 cat). I gave it to my mom who has three cats and it broke within weeks, I don't know if they didn't change the container enough or if three was just too much. best of luck with your decision.

I USED to have a LitterMaid. Like others have said, I ended up just scooping it because the darned thing would always go off at night because we would put too much litter in or the cats would pee in one big clump too heavy to lift into the box---then we would have to listen to the alarm at three in the morning!!!!! It was also not real easy to clean but maybe my cats are extra dirty, who knows.

I have had litter boxes I scoop for some time now and I have found it much cleaner if I can put a liner in it and scoop it out regularly. I recently had to purchase a new box and I found one called a BOODA---I got it at PetsMart and am VERY happy with it. It has a ramp where the litter gets tracked and stays in the box and not on the floor. The ramp is also GREAT for my geriatric cats suffering from arthritis---they would pee outside the box before because it was too hard to climb over the 2-3 inch lip. I would recommend this box to anyone.

One automatic box I have seen that I am very impressed by is the one at this link---http://www.catgenie.com/?R=cf. If my cats were younger I would seriously consider this worth the cost (that is if I couldn't toilet train them like Jinxy from "Meet the Parents"---LOL).

I have had a Litter Maid box for about 10 years. I love it, my cat loves it, and I've never had a problem with it. Granted, I've only got one cat and only need to dump the canister once a week (meaning one box of canisters lasts close to 3 months), but even when I've had foster cats I only needed to change the canister twice a week. I also prefer to use a natural litter, not clay, which helps with any stink. It also lasts longer.

I have one cat too, and I just use a covered litter box. I also have a little textured mat in front of it that catched litter in her paws well. I like the covered one a lot...it's a little stinky (right after kitty goes) but it has an "air filter" and goes away quickly. I also use are and hammer pet odor elimator in her litter.

We have a Littermaid with the rectangle boxes and rake, and I really enjoyed it at first. However, as other moms have said, the cats don't always go potty in the same spot so was uneven, and my cats even peed on the sensor regularly (the one that tells if an animal is in the box) so it wouldn't scoop.

I used the recommended litter and tried to keep the box wiped down and clean, but every few weeks it would just stop working. The rake wouldn't rake and would actually get stuck in the raked position, hovering over the waste container, the lid of which was now suspended in air.

After this happened about four times and I did a thorough cleaning each time, it finally stopped working completely. So I still have it, but it's not plugged in, and I just scoop it like a normal cat box.

I'm interested to see what other moms have to say, as I am wary to try another expensive box just to have it fail.

We have a Litter Maid automatic litter box, with a kitty cabana tent thing (my husband). It works well enough, nothing is perfect though. About once or twice a month I go in the closet where we keep the contraption and vacuum the areas where litter has spilled, the cabana keeps most flying litter IN though. Kitty tends to favor one side of the box, so the waste piles up when the rake passes. Nothing to be done about that though.
I've found that the LitterMaid brand litter actually DOES work better, keeping ammonia smell down, overall a fresher box.
Al in all, it's still a lot less maintenance than a regular litter box.

Hi Devon, I've tried an automatic cat litter box (it's been years ago so I don't recall the brand). At the time I had five cats so I really wanted to have something that worked great. All I can say about it is, the idea is nice. It used long rectangular plastic containers and although the mechanics of it worked fine, it really wasn't practical. Because you can't tell the cat "where" to go in the box, it tends to be uneven in the waste container, making the covers not fit well, thereby defeating the purpose of a cover at all. And changing it wasn't so great either, for that same reason. I found that it's much easier to just have a standard, covered cat box using a good clumping litter and just scoop it every day. I hate having to deal with it so much, but scooping once a day for one cat isn't too horrible (I no longer have 5, am down to just my 14 year old chocolate point himalayan). With a regular cat box I don't even use the plastic liners anymore, either. They tend to get claw holes quickly, so I quit wasting my time/money on them. We now just scoop regularly, and refill with litter as needed, and do complete litter changes so we can wash the box when necessary. Sorry I don't have more glowing reports on an automatic box. I think it would be fine to keep one around if you were going to be out of town for any length of time, but for daily use I just don't think they're worth the expense. Good luck!!

I have tried every litter product out there. My solution for no stink is to get a covered litter box and use PaPurr litter. It is the best litter out there. It is made from paper so it doesn't smell like clay or have the dust that regular litters do, but it looks just like clay litter so your cats don't know the difference. I don't know why it doesn't smell, but it really doesn't. I change it every 3 or 4 days (we have 2 cats) and I never smell anything unless one of them went #2 within the last 5 min. The only place you can get it is at Petsmart and it is $10 for a 35 lb bag that usually lasts about 2 weeks.

I find it much easier to buy the litter box liners and just dump the whole thing without having to sift and scoop. Good Luck!
