I am looking to change my OBGYN from Walnut Creek to San Ramon/Danville to be closer to home for the delivery of my third child at San Ramon Regional Medical Center. I've been referred to Dr. Mark Lollar as well as Dr. Joanne Vogel. Has anyone had any experience with either doctor? OR, do you love your doctor and want to refer her/him to me? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

Dr. Vogel is my OBGYN, I had my first daughter with her and am now pregnant with my second. I'm very happy with her and also couldn't have been happier with San Ramon Regional Medical Center for my delivery and postop (I had to have an emergency C-section with my daughter).

I hope this helps. Cheers.

Dr. Vogel delivered my daughter and while she is very skilled her bedside manners are completely lacking. Not to mention her receptionist always treated me like dirt. If I could change one thing about my first pregnancy it would have been to absolutely change Drs. so that I could have fond memories of all my appts and ultrasounds.

I love Dr. Vogel, she delivered my second baby and was able to do an external inversion because my daughter was breech and she was fantastic and I had a safe delivery. she is in the same office as Dr. Hilliard, who is by OBGYN and delivered my other two children and I LOVE them both. I wish you the best and have a great summer.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Lollar, he is so incredible. delivered both of my girls and was just incredibly kind, funny, compassionate, and mellow. he does not worry you un-necessarily and takes you through the process with ease and is so gentle. i had the best time delivering both of my girls, we laughed and cried the whole delivery. during the delivery of both girls he asked me to place my hands under their arms and i ended up pulling each girl out and laying them on my chest myself. it was truly the most magical experience of my life and i believe he had a huge hand in making it that way. i was induced with both pregnancies (low amniotic fluid), he was so mellow about it, if it weren't for him i would have freaked out, but he was so calm and re-assuring, i knew it would be safe and the girls would be fine. his nurse karen is WONDERFUL too and is just as easy going and kind as he is. After both deliveries he came by in the morning before rounds and spent like 45 mins just chatting with me with his feet up on the table and just hanging out. he is such a special person. after my first baby i was so weepy and i actually cried saying goodbye to him! anyway, he is a doll and i can't say enough good things about him!! i may have to have another baby just to go through the whole experience again. :)

best of luck!!

J.

I have used Dr. Vogel's office before. I saw the nurse practitioner, Shellie Campos, and it was just for "routine maintenance" but it was one of the best Dr. office visits I have ever had. It was on time, fast, efficient, comfortable, pleasant, everyone was very nice. I am not looking forward to going again, but I won't dread it either. Shellie was so easy to talk to! J.

I absolutely LOVE Dr. Vogel. I had a few complications with my pregnancy. She took charge of what needed to be done but was not quick to throw the c-section trigger until it had to be done. I had had 2 operations under her knife including a c-section & mymoectomy to remove a large fibroid. I have never felt more at ease going into surgery as I did with her. She is a salt of the earth kind of person and very matter-of-fact. During regular appointments always feel like I am talking to a friend who happens to be a doctor. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Vogel if you are having a baby. She is the type of doctor that is in charge and is genuinely concerned about the health of you & your baby.

I really like Dr. Vogel. She is very practical and no nonsense while being caring. She delivered my son last year and I will go to her again if I have another baby. Her front office staff is nice as well. If you prefer seeing a woman doctor, she is very good.

Absolutely LOVE Dr. Lollar!
I have been seeing him since 2002 and he has delivered both my girls, one in August 2006 and one in January of this year. We had some fertility stuff with our first and he was wonderful with that as well. He is very knowledgeable and up on current fertility stuff as well. He has great bed-side manner and answers questions when they are asked. Good luck!

I had Dr. Lollar devliver my 2 children. I loved the staff in his office, the efficiency of the appointments and the San Ramon Regional Medical Center. Dr. Lollar was fine, but for me I would have probably preferred a woman. He was a little distant and never really asked me many questions (although both my pregnancies were normal). I didn't know what questions to ask him, so the appointments only lasted 5 min. My friend also had him and felt the same way, until she had a complication in her 32nd week. She felt that he great with it all and in the end everything turned out fine. I would just really recommend the San Ramon Regional Medical Center. Both times I was there only a couple people were having babies. The staff is very willing to help out after the baby comes, even to take care of them for a few hours to let you get some sleep. They have nice private rooms, and good food. You also get a Champagne (or Sparkling Cider) dinner on your last night, with restaurant quality food. The Chef wheels in the dinner on a cart with a tablecloth and cloth napkins (very fancy!) If you do go to this hospital, get the chocolate cake with one of your meals, it is delicious.

Dr. Vogel has been my OB/GYN for a year and a half. She has a very personable manner. She is easy to talk to and likes to thoroughly answer my questions. She frequently calls me herself with test result information. She is knowledgeable, on-the-ball, and quick and efficient.

Unfortunately I haven't yet been able to carry full term since moving to the area, so I can't report on her delivery room style; but she took great care of me when she performed surgery and she was very compassionate when I miscarried. I'm sure she must be great with the happy events too! :)

Hi,
Dr. Lollar has been my OB for 5 years or so. He knows his stuff. He's very friendly, but does not really spend a lot of time each visit explaining things or adding much input. It was my second baby, so maybe he figured I already knew the drill!

Anyway, when it came time to deliver, I had kind of a rough situation and he stepped into action. Like I said, he knows his stuff and I would feel confident referring him.

Also, I agree that San Ramon Regional is an awesome place. When I had my baby in 2003, they gave my husband and a great dinner the second night (real food!) and a bottle of champagne.

Hope this helps!

I had gone to Dr. Lollar one time about 14-15 years ago and at that time I decided that he was too cute to be my doctor (ha ha, don't know about now but I was young and that was how I thought). I have always been to Dr. William Phillips in Pleasanton. I love him! He is very Matter-of-fact and gives you a lot of information with percentages, I never thought he was very personable until I had a miscarriage last year and he was really great with talking to me. My 2nd child was breech when I went in at 10CM and he allowed me to try and deliver vaginally. The nurses all were saying if it were another doctor that they would have automatically done a c-section, so I felt really lucky to have him as a doctor. Also, I liked how calm he always was even when I was delivering a breech baby. Hope this helps a little,
K.

Lollar wasn't my OB for my first pregnancy (Leach was). However, I saw him for my very first appointment as I had a little spotting. He came in on a Saturday just to see me and set my mind at ease. I really liked him...he's got a great demeanor and I would have been just as happy with him as Leach (who was also great, but he's in WC now). I've heard great things about Vogel, too. The thing to remember is, the nurses are the ones who are with you during the delivery and the nurses at San Ramon are fabulous. It is a great place to have a baby! The only thing I'd do differently is go without the epidural (I had 3 and none of them worked for me, but I did end up getting a spinal headache) and I would get a doula (which is what I'm doing for this one!) Best of luck to you!

I tried Dr. Lollar and found that he wasn't for me. I live in Dublin and ended up going to Dr. Leach in Walnut Creek instead and it was a great experience. I had some issues early on in my pregnancy, spotting etc. Before any spotting, during one of my first visits, Dr. Lollar told me I should quit my job as an aerobics instructor. I did so, but later found out I didn't need to do that and ended up losing my classes and seniority in the process. I also saw him after an incident of spotting and he asked what I had done the day before. I told him I had worked out (totally modified to accomodate the pregnancy) and had a small glass of wine. His response was 'Do you really want this pregnancy?'. I found his remark judgemental and insensitive. That was my last visit to his office, i changed over to Dr. Leach after that. He was much more in tune with my active lifestyle and now I have a perfect 6 month baby girl.
My general impression with Dr. Lollar and his NP was that they didn't like to be questioned. I tend to have a lot of questions during my visits, trying to maintain a healthy balance between me and my children. I think they would have preferred me to just do as I was told and not question it. My husband and I both found Dr. Lollar condescending and pompous.
All that said, I do have a girlfriend who is using him for her second pregnancy and is having no issues. She is planning to use a midwife for her delivery, though, and is afraid to tell Dr. Lollar about it until that last possible moment.
I have heard really good things about Dr. Eyvazzadeh, who is in the same building as Dr. Lollar. My friend used him for both of her pregnancies and found him very understanding and compassionate. I would have used him too, but he was in the same oncall group as Dr. Lollar, so I ended up going with Dr. Leach.
Good luck with your search and your pregnancy!

I have had Dr. Lollar since April of 2005 and LOVE him! I can't say enough good things about him. My husband and I were living and working in D.C. when I got pregnant. To make a long story short I was so sick (throwing up 24/7) and dehydrated we ended up coming back to the Bay Area (where we are both from). I was referred to Dr. Lollar by a good friend of mine who knows he has a lot of high profile patients. Right away he put me on meds to keep my food down so I could gain weight and was very attentive and sweet. He is the BEST! The night I went into labor with my daughter he was scheduled to go on vacation with his family but delayed his trip so he could be there to deliver my daughter the next morning. And he even stayed for an extra hour in my room after I had her chatting with me and my family. If you want the best doctor who is very caring, attentive, and will put your mind at ease while pregnant this is the doctor for you. He has a very nice office, with big plush leather couches and a great staff as well. They are all like family. Tell him M. Verlatti said hi!!!
