6 Year Old's Pants Won't Stay Up

I am looking for a solution to saggy pants. My daughter seems to always have the plumber's crack problem! She has a tummy that sticks out but is not really a "big" girl. She wants to wear her pants under her belly and they constantly slide off. With non elastic waist pants it gets worse as they stretch throught the day. It is not easy to find elastic waist jeans either. I have bought tighter pants and she can't breath or button them on her own. I have bought larger pants and adjusted the waist and have her wear a belt. I have tried many brands. I don't know if it is because of her tummy or if I would have the same problem if she was flat tummied. Any ideas to keep the pants up?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have tried adjustable waist pants. We have many pairs. I cinch them in until we can comfortably button them and I put a belt on her. I swear by the end of the day her pants are still sagging! Maybe she has very straight hips. I thought all little girls do. I looked at Sprockets brand, but they appear to go to a 6x. She is in a size 7 and they are on the verge of being too short.

Many great suggestions! Thank you! We certainly have tried adjustable waists and belts. They still seem to wiggle down! I agree about the rise though. One thing I have done is buy a lot of tunics so no one can see her backside when it is hanging out! I will try one of the belt alternatives. I had not seen them before. Thanks!!!

You need to buy the pants with adjustable waist bands...I have found them at Gymboree, The Children's Place, and I think Old Navy...but many stores carry them, I have needed them for my daughter and my youngest son.

Try the adjustable waist pants at Children's Place. My son is only 4 and is a toothpick and we have a problem keeping pants up also and they work great for him.

My 2 yo has a pants problem too. I can't find any pants that will stay up, so I quit looking, and got a belt. He's a different age, obviously, but he LOVES it, and there are different patterns for older kids as well. Check them out (he can easily undo/redo it himself, and it doesn't make it hard to go to the bathroom). http://cbellybelts.com/Site/Home-1.html

Suspenders. hehe! Wouldn't she be fashionable? The only one wearing them.

Get jeans that snap and have the adjustable waist band on the inside of the jeans. She will have to learn how to snap her jeans. Much easier than having to button them. Her hands will strengthen as she snaps. She is 6 years old. It's about time to stop wearing elastic waist jeans.

Also the rise of the jean matters alot. I used to buy my daughter jeans from Children's Place and it seemed everyone of them were low rise. She had major crack issues.

You can also buy her skinny jeans. They fit tighter and are the style these days. My daughter has one pair and they are the best fitting pair she owns.

Good Luck

We have the exact same problem and I totally agree with Sarah C, it's about the rise of the pants. The best jeans I've found so far are the plain Circo ones from Target. They're not the most fashionable, but they stay put a lot better, have the adjustable waist we need and most importantly she doesn't show her crack anymore!

I have found this problem seems to be related to the rise of the jeans. The current style is a low rise, so there's not much fabric between the crotch and the waist. I try to look for pants that have a higher rise. I haven't found any particular brands that are better yet, though. Good luck.

Hi D.,

My daughter is tiny, and her pants are always falling down. The problem is not the width, but the length.

Try 'Sprokets' elastic waist jeans. They are great!! They are roomy and long, so all of my daughters moving around does not 'pull' them down.

Good luck, and maybe with the comfortable elastic, your daughter will not mind pulling her pants up over her stomach.

Have you seen these? http://www.dappersnappers.com/ They are mini belts that snap to the back loops of a child's pants to cinch them.
