Movie for a 5 Year Old

My 5 year old daughter and I both love dogs. I was thinking about taking her to either Marley and Me or Hotel for Dogs. Can anyone say if they're appropriate for a 5 year old? Thanks!

5 Year Old Becoming VERY Defiant...

My girls, ages 5 and 6, are good kids, REALLY good kids, until recently... and I'm a tough love mom. If the girls both get in trouble for something, my 6 year old immediately says 'Sorry mom, I won't do it again' and then she'll correct the problem. The 5 year old will just STARE at me with this ATTITUDE. If I ask her 'Did you hear what I just said??' and she'll kind of shrug her shoulders with the same defiant 'I don't care' attitude. I'll say 'MADISON! What do you say?!' and she'll finally roll her eyes and mumble 'yes ma'am'... WHAT IS...

Ideas to Get My 6 Year Old to Eat

My 6 year old has a very limited diet. My new years resolution is that he will eat what my husband and I eat at dinner. My only idea is to say if you don't eat dinner you don't eat. I also thought I would try to add something he likes to the dinner menu and bribery in the way of desert if dinner is eaten. All ideas will be appreciated. Thanks

Guinea Pig or Hamster?

Ever since my 6 year old daughter visited my sister and fell in love with her chihuahua, she has longed for a dog she can have on her lap and carry around. She begs for one almost daily. We already have a dog (an older, grumpy border collie who's definitely not a cuddler), and often have my mom's dog over here due to her health problems. Hubby has refused to consent to another dog. So the compromise is either a guinea pig or hamster. Which is more tame/affectionate/cuddly, and is one "easier" than the other? I'm fully aware that I'll be...

Toys in Your Living Room?

People with small children and small houses: do you allow toys in your living room? I have 2 preschoolers and a 2 bedroom apartment. My youngest is moving into a big bed now which means even less space to play in their room. I suggested to my husband that we get some sort of toy shelf for the living room and he was adamently against it- he doesn't want our common area cluttered with play things. While I agree with him ideally, realisitically I don't think it's even fair to make them keep ALL their things in their room when pretty much...

Gift Ideas for a 5 Year Old Girl

Two weeks ago my family moved to a new state. We have only had a chance to meet a couple of our neighbors. One of which invited us to her 5 year old daughter's birthday this coming weekend. She thought it would be a great chance for us to meet the other neighbors. The birthday is a come and go as you please party in their yard. They will also be inviting other neighbors from the surrounding few blocks. I also think this is a great opportunity to become part of our new neighborhood. I have only one child, a 22 month old son, so I have...

Who Does the Holiday Decorating?

Happy holidays everyone! Question here... who does the holiday decorating in your home? Is putting up the Christmas tree a family effort that has evolved into a tradition? While I admit that I may decorate the inside and outside of my home more than the average person, I am feeling like I am a one woman operation. This year I tried to communicate to the hubby that I would like to decorate the tree with our two toddlers together. Needless to say, that didn't happen. I am feeling extra sad about it this year for some reason. I am so...

5 Year Old with No Attention Span

Hello, My 5 year old son is in Kindergarten. He is a great kid and gets along well with others. The problem that we are having seems to be his attention span. He's a young 5 in the class (most kids start at 6 now it seems). He sits in the front so the teacher can help keep him on task but he turns around when someone is talking and is slow to turn around or gets distracted easily. I don't believe it's ADD or ADHD it's more like either he's insterested or not. I'm not sure what to do to help this. Is it something that will happen as...
