Newborn Bowel Movements

I have a one month old who is having trouble with her bowel movements. I have addressed this with her doctor and I've been using karo syrup in her bottles. My issue is that the syrup is breaking her out and blowing her up. She's been having this problem since her third day home from the hospital and everyone seems to think that by now her bowels should be regulated but they aren't.
