My Stinky Armpits!

I'm like the embarrased dancing lady on the deodarant commercial. I'll have just showered and less than an hour later, my pits are wet and/or stinky. My doc prescribed me some stuff, but it stung me and then didn't work. I"m not on any any meds and will be 29 in 3 weeks. I'm not overweight at all or anything either. . Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

I get a stinky left armpit from time to time and I use Secret Clinical Sport, keyword being "Sport". It works better than the other Secret Clinical ones. I don't know what the deal is when this happens. It's very frustrating and not very sexy, lol!

My son is 16 and he has this problem. I don't.know if this will help or not, but it's worth trying, since it works for him. Get Degree Clinical Protection motion sense (motion activated). It used to be prescribed, but now it's over the counter. It's very expensive, but I am so happy for it.

Also, put it on before you go to bed. The doctor mentioned that to my other son several years ago. You might try that. (I can't remember why the doc suggested it.)

I used to have this problem. I know it sounds weird but I keep about 6 different store brands at a time and alternate between them daily. Something about using the same brand everyday doesn't work for me. If I alternate though they all work fine. My favs are Degree, soft and dry, secret, mitchum, arm and hammer, and sometimes I will use Arid but it can burn.

Taking 50 mg of Zinc every day has helped me. And I tried ALL of the clinical deodorants and tons of natural stuff that didn't work. The best one for me has been the Dove Clinical in Fresh Scent. But if I skip the Zinc pill, I can tell! Hope this helps!
ETA:Oops, it's Dove Clinical and the scent is Original Clean.

I'd approach this problem scientifically and buy sample sizes, if available, of many different types of antiperspirant/deodorants. Make sure the stick you buy says antiperspirant and not just deodorant because a deodorant will just cover up smells and do nothing about any wetness. Then I would use one product a day until I found one that really works for me. Not all underarm products are created equal.

In addition I'd look up hyperhidrosis and check out what kinds of changes to your diet you can make to help.

Hi B.
Since you are preggers your body chemicals change. For more natural ways to deal with this go to this website. I use it all the time to look up natural remedies instead of using chemicals.

I am amazed that noone has recommended a diet change.

I realize stinky pits are embarassing and annoying. I used to have them too - no matter what brand of aluminum filled paste I used. When I changed my diet and focused on consuming more raw foods (fruits and veggies) and less meat and dairy...the stench went away.

Now I use Tom's natural deoderant and wash my armpits once in the shower, and occasionally again with anti-bacterial cetaphil bar soap - in any given day.

You are supposed to sweat. That is your body's 2nd fastest toxin eliminating process. When you fill your pores in your armpits with anti-perspirant you are putting more toxins into it. Think of what you are doing to your pores and lymphnodes in your arms and breasts everytime you put that paste on. You are locking bacteria and toxins inside your body. No wonder it stinks. "They" say there is no correlation, but I refuse to beleive that anti-perspirant does not contribute to breast cancer - the proxmity is just too close.

Look at what you are putting into your body - it may make sense that it's putting a stink out.

Also - your sleeves on your shirts and jackets may be part of the problem. They hold bacteria in them and unless they are thoroughly cleaned, will likely carry a stink with them between washings...compounding the issue. If your clothes smell like mildew after washing, you will stink. Your washer should be treated weekly with bleach and wet clothes should never sit in the washer after the cycle ends - promptly move them to the dryer to avoid any sort of mildew growth.

Good luck!

I go in cycles w/ this. One thing that works is to rotate different deodorants. Also, there is one called Certain Dri (for night use) and you put it on before bed. You have to have NOT showered or recently shaved. It WILL itch and be somewhat uncomfortable, BUT...it does work. I think it might just slow down/close up some of those pours. They also make one you can use daily (that is a normal deodorant). The Certain Dri (night) is not something you use daily...I found that if I do it once, I am good for awhile.

Good luck...this is embarrassing and stinks! LOL!!! Pun intended! :)

Arrid Extra Dry Maximum Strength, the spray kind in the yellow can. Most deodorants don't work for me either, except this one. Also, like a previous poster mentioned, keep the area shaved. It may also help if you use a clear antibacterial bodywash like Dial. I've heard, although I have never tried this method, but you can buy some type of natural crystal that will help with this issue.

I agree with Angela. I used to use the same brand ... for years. All of a sudden I started getting wet and stinky and for no apparent reason. I bought a couple of different brands and tried and it seems that I can use the same brand for a few days or even a week. If I feel it's beginning to not work, I switch for a few days. I did find one brand that didn't seem to work at all on me. I have one stick of my old brand (because I had previously purchased a multi-pack, so I still have several around) that I keep in my purse, just in case. I've only had to use it a couple of times, but I do feel much better knowing it's there.

Good luck!

My mom used to always say, "If you stink, you need zinc!" lol. She recommended a supplement of zinc, or consumption of zinc-containing foods. I never went that route for some reason. But in the past, I've had this problem. I had to use an antibacterial bar soap for washing my pits, rather than bodywash. Also, make sure to dry your pits. And then I had to have about 3-5 different types of anti-perspirant and I would rotate them. That seemed to help.

My daughter had the exact same problem when she was 13. She uses mens deodorant which is stronger and has not had a problem. We even tried the very expensive ladies and that did not work. Good luck

These are things that have worked for my friends, I have little to no body hair and hardly ever have to even wear deoderant.

Always keep the hair shaved in the pit area. The hair is like a sponge that absorbs the odors. Try different kinds and styles of deodorant. Many of them are chemically different and it is a HUGE difference.

After taking a shower try using a powder like shower to shower or something like Gold Bond to absorb the moisture.

Try the clinical strength deoderants. I started using the Secret version about a year ago for the very same reason. It's more expensive, but it works for me.

The easiet thing to change is your deodrant. After having kids I would sweat more so I just started using my husbands deodrant. I have never went back. I buy my own stick of coarse but I love it. I stay fresh all day and never stick. Maybe you can try that. I use men's Degree.
