Does anyone have a good trick for getting a pet stain/smell out of a mattress??? We had gone away on vacation and came back to find out the housesitter left a cat in a room overnight and she had an accident, if you will, on our bed. I've been trying to clean this area but it still smells. Any suggestions on how to get the urine smell out of the mattress without throwing it away?????

What can I do next?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did try the peroxide and water and it worked wonders!!!! I also found out that peroxide actually has a LOT of uses, even sore throats! Anyway, thanks!

you might try alittle vinegar (i know it smells too), but it may draw the urine odor out, then you could go back over it with alittle baking soda and water.

Try vinegar and baking soda. Just make a paste and scrub it into the stain, let it dry.

There's a product in a white can, I believe with black or green writing, and it's called Eliminator. It's an expensive spray at the vet clinic, but it worked for me.

However, some pets can still smell their own, or other cats, urine and will continue to spray in that spot. You need something like Eliminator that will break down the enzymes of the stain, not just cover it up like other sprays, cleaners, and home remedies.

Diluted vinegar (vinegar and water) works wonders . . . I used it when my male cats began to spray. Odoban also works well (it is a disinfectant/deoderizer), it can be found at Sam's or maybe online. But Odoban can be used for anything such as room deoderizer, spray disinfectant, to killing staff infection or worse. So my answer, vinegar/water and/or odoban!

I have always gotten stains and smells out with peroxide! It breaks down the chemical make up of most stains! It is also good for getting blood out of items. All you have to do is pour the peroxide on the stain and let sit. Pat up with a towel or cloth of some kind. Good Luck!

My sister swears by Borax which is in the cleaning aisle. I can't testify to it myself.
