Getting Cat Urine Smell Out

Hey, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience getting the smell of cat pee to come out of plastic? We got my son a big plastic slide for his playroom and ended up taking it outside a few months ago to play with outside. I decided to clean it up and bring it back inside, so I used soap and a garden hose to clean it. While I feel that it is clean, I notice a distinct cat pee smell coming from it now that it is back inside. Does anyone know what I could use to take the smell out so that I don't have to put it back out in the yard?

What can I do next?

Vinegar is the best thing I've found for clothes and even use it in my steam cleaner. You could try that but I don't know about how it will work on plastic but I know it will neutralize the smell so I hope this works for you!! Good luck!!

1. Try baking soda. Made a paste and rub on and let sit for a while. Rub and rinse.
2. Try vinegar in abundance. Let dry outdoors. Rinse and dry.

Hi N.,
I have a new puppy and we buy the as seen on TV Urine Gone. It is an enzymatic cleaner that is great for people and pet accidents! The stuff works great! Our pet trainer told me that to mix 50% vinegar with 50% water and saturate the area with that works the same way. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I would try vinegar- white- you can put it on full strength and let it sit in the sun for a few hrs.
I am sure that a petsmart would have a product for this purpose, but white vinegar is your cheapest most toxic free choice.

i've heard vinegar takes the urine smell out of anything... i guess try it. can't hurt...

ok this is what my "google-fu" came up with
Combine one part distilled white vinegar to two parts warm water to create a spray. Remove as much urine/spray as you can using a paper towels. Mist vinegar spray over areas of cat urine and rub with a paper towel. An alternative method is to mix the solution in a bucket and dip a clean cloth into the liquid. Rub the stain with the vinegar solution. After the vinegar dries, wipe away both solution and stain with warm water.

Another simple to make spray uses 15 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, two tablespoons of baking soda, and two squirts of liquid hand soap. Mix in a plastic container with a plastic spoon. Discard after use. Apply this solution to cat urine stains or odour areas, and then rinse away with warm water.

My cat did the same thing with my son's playhut. I scrubbed with Pinesol first and then rinsed off well. Then I used a peroxide and water mixture and sprayed on the spot, let it sit, and the rinsed away. I didn't notice the smell anymore.

N., What if you used Clorox Clean up?

I had an issue in my freezer when I moved in June, you would have thought someone left a uncovered FISH in my freezer... I got the Clorox Clean Up and presto!

You may have to do it a few times.. becareful though and do it outside as it is BLEACH.

Go to your local pet store, they have products that should work.

If it is plastic you can probably almost use anything....comet, maybe even a bit of bleach if you rinse it off quickly. I would try baking soda and water to make a paste first, then maybe some white vinegar if that does not work. Those are very safe...then go the route of the others if they don't work. There may even be a special solvent that pet stores sell b/c I am sure it is common to want to get that smell out.
