What's the Best Way to "Dry Up" My Milk Supply?

Hi A.! Congratulations on your baby girl! I had to bottle feed from day one and when my milk did come in I had to find a way to stop it! Nothing like a milk covered shirt. LOL I took two sports bras. On my breasts, I put cabbage leafs and covered with first bra. Between that and the second bra I put a frozen bag of peas. (Not the most comfortable feeling-nor the most lovely of sights) My OB said it should take three days but I waited and in about four to five days it was dry. I waited until the fourth day to check and make sure, I didn't check in between. Good luck to you!!!

There used to be medication they could give you to stop milk production, there isn't any anymore. After you stop pumping, it will stop when it's ready. It could be days, it could be a long time. Everyone's body is different. Good luck!!

As the other mom said, this is up to your body; they no longer prescribe meds or give the shot to dry it up. It can be a bit painful when the become a bit engorged; so it may help you to wear a snug fitting bra and wear thicker breast pads to absorb the leaks that will occur. Mine took 2 weeks to really complete the process, but even then, and months after, I had a random drop here and there.

When I was breastfeeding I also did not have an increase in my milk. So what I did was stop pumping altogether and in no time stop producing. I did not take me long at all. That is the only way I can suggest that you not get any milk at all. Good Luck and Congrats on your baby girl.
