Uterine Fibroids

A good friend of mine completely eliminated her fibroids with homeopathic treatment and was pregnant a few months later. She worked with Dr. Rodd Stockwell in Middleton...homeopathy is not a quick cure for everyone but it can fix almost anything and is very natural, no risks/side effects generally speaking.

I didn't find out I had fibroids until I was in labor (somehow they missed it on my ultrasounds!). It was about the size of the babies' head so there was no way he was coming out vaginally. I had a C section and the fibroid is now shrunken. The doctor thinks it will only flair up during pregnancy but checks it once a year. I think like other people say it depends on the location of the fibroid. He says it shouldn't affect getting pregnant in the future, but only time will tell! Good luck!

I found out I had fibroids before I was married. My doctor recommended I leave them there because he said sometimes the scars cause more problems than the fibroids. We got pregnant with DS right away and had a normal pregnancy and vaginal delivery. The only things the Dr told me was to mention them to anyone else who examined me because the Dr might feel the fibroid and think my so was breech, which he was not, because the fibroid felt like a head. We've been trying to conceive #2 for almost 3 years now. I've had 2 miscarriages. My original OBGYN has retired and my new Dr thought it best to remove the fibroids, so I no longer have them. I also have endometriosis, which is why I was having the surgery in the first place and this is what the doctors think is causing our infertility now.

My sister had uterine fibroids. She had 3 myomectomy surgeries (each about 3-4 years apart) before finally getting married. She able to conceive (at 36) with no problems despite the surgeries. However, they discovered new fibroids in the uterus during the pregnancy ultrasound! The only complication she had was at the end of the pregnancy... the new fibroid took up some of the baby's room (which the drs anticipated), and the myomectomy scar began to separate a little (which I don't think they anticipated). They did amnioscentesis near the end to determine when it was safe to do a C-section and as soon as he was "ready" out he came (approx 8 months). Happy ending: my nephew is an incredible little 18-month old, and *amazingly* precocious.

A friend of mine had tried to conceive for a year and had one miscarriage until they discovered she had fibroids. She then had the surgery and has had three c-sections since them with no complications. Wish you the best!!

I am speaking second hand here - my co-worker had a myomectomy and had two normal pregnancies, both by c- section afterwards. I believe there were several years between her myomectomy and the first pregnancy.

Hi Heidi - I have fibroids, 2 fairly large ones (one the size of about a lemon, the other about a golfball). They've never caused me any pain or discomfort, nor have they ever required treatment of any kind. I have 2 kids, ages 3 1/2 and 14 months. Both children were conceived naturally, I delivered both vaginally. From all the research I've done & discussions with my healthcare providers, it depends a lot on not just their size, but their positioning (ie. where they are in the uterus, are they protruding into the uterus, out of the uterus, or right in the wall). Wait and see how things look when you have the ultrasound, that will offer a lot of info. Also from what I have read, fibroids are more likely to cause miscarriage than prevent conception (again, if they're hogging up space, that could be an issue for a little fetus). Fibroids are very 'blood thirsty' so sometimes they can grow during pregnancy since there is increased blood flow to that region of your body. I'm not sure how significant your are, but I remember the first time mine were found by my doc, it was during a pelvic exam, they were large enough for her to actually feel them (though I never had), so I was completely freaked out! This was before getting pregnant the first time and I was so afraid that I would never get pregnant, let alone have 2 healthy pregnancies/deliveries. I should mention, I never have had a miscarriage either. Last thing, there is a non-invasive means to treat fibroids now, and I am sorry I can't recall the name.
