Hi, my fibroids were found about a year before I got pregnant with my son. I was told when I got pregnant that the baby may not implant and there was a risk of miscarriage because of the fibroids. When I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks, they said if we heard a heartbeat then we could go ahead and start telling everyone. Meaning things were going pretty good. Well I had regular ultrasounds about 1 a month almost to check the sizes and mine actually got smaller. They never ever caused my any problems and the only reason they were found was through an ultrasound because my pap came back with abnormal cells or something like that. So I never even knew I had them.

I just wanted to say please don't freak out about it. I was fine and I think the majority are too. I do know that early in the pregnancy they said that c-section was a possibility cause the fibroid might grow and get in the way of delivery. I had a c-section anyway but not because of the fibroid. So just because you have fibroids doesn't mean that they can't go away during your pregnancy or even if they just stay the same, you will most likely be fine.

Wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy

Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I personally do not have experience with fibroids, but as a doula, I worked with a mom that had fibroids, including a very large one that covered her birth canal. She had to have a c-section, but other than that her pregnancy went very well and she carried to term. She had a healthy baby girl a week before her due date.
From what I understand they can get larger during pregnancy due to the increase in estrogen, but that does not mean that it will cause any ill effects.
I pray that all goes well.
Joanna

I found out I had a HUGE fibroid when I was about 1-1/2 months pregnant. It's actually when I found out I was also having twins! Anyway, I had a lot of pain in the beginning, but after the first few months the pain disappeared. I was induced at 38 weeks with my twins and they weighed over 7lbs each! Needless to say, I had a very healthy pregnancy. I did have a myomectomy this past September due to the pain returning after the birth. Since fibroids grow due to hormones, mine ended up growing to a weight of 3lbs! Although the surgery was painful, I'm glad to have it out in case I want to have more children. My word of advice is to make sure your doctor keeps an eye on it and if he/she forgets, remind them! I actually switched doctors b/c my orginal thought I was crazy. Congrats and good luck with the pregnancy!

Hi Jessica,
I was 7 weeks along when I found out I had fibroids with my third pregnancy. I went to the hospital to have a sonogram because I was bleeding a lot and I was called back with the results that I had fibroids and that it was noncancerous but it was causing me to bleed and they weren't big. My midwife told me that it would only be an issue depending on the size of the fibroids. Also she told me that I would look a little bigger. She told me that with one patient she had was 4 months pregnant looked like she was 7 months pregnant. Also, she said I may or may not have cramps that felt like period cramps but, I went on to have a healthy 7lb baby girl and she was 3wks early. So, try not to worry! Just try to get as much info from your ob doctor or midwife because every patient is different.

Hi Jessica! I have very large fibroids and successfully gave birth to my son two years ago. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy with a little bit of pain in the first trimester. The pain was just my fibroids aching, not the severe, degeneration pain you sometimes hear about. I also measured about 6 weeks further along the whole time--yes, mine are BIG!

The fact that you are 8 weeks along is a good sign. Though I had one successful pregnancy I have had two miscarriages and I'm sure they're due to the 'roids (though no one can really ever say for sure). Typically when you have a fibroid-related m/c it's very early b/c they affect the implantation. Mine have both been at less than 6 weeks.

A couple of places to find more info: http://boards.babycenter.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=bcus...# This is the fibroid board on babycenter.com.
Yahoogroups has a uterine fibroid board that has been a wealth of info for me. It's not specifically for women who are pregnant, but there are plenty of women on the board who have been or are p/g and could answer questions.

Anyway, I hope this helps some. I spent my whole pregnancy pretty much alternating between euphoria and terror but my worst fears were never realized. Good luck and feel free to email me directly if you want. ____@____.com.
