Toddler Trying to Potty Train and Pull Ups/underwear

I have twin boys, 3 yrs and 2 months. One decided out of the blue that he is ready to use the potty. He has been doing great for 3 days now. Only went once in his diaper (besides night time of course!!). Here is my problem. He refuses to wear pull ups or underwear. I agree that I shouldn't even use pull ups, but just trying anything that he can easily pull down and up. I have to undo his diaper each time. He does have sensory issues (tags in shirts, seam on socks, etc). What should I do??? I don't want him to refuse the potty and just go in his diaper which he may do if I insist on the pull up/underwear.
Thanks mommies!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses. I had tried the commando thing and he hates being naked!! So I tried no undies and just pants. Still didn't like that. BUT I finally got him in the underwear. The issue is tags (which I removed if they have them in it) and the elastic. Then of course, the pants he is wearing cannot have a tag either. Unfortunately, cutting it out doesn't always make a smooth cut and he goes nuts! This is never ending. Once again, thanks for your input :)

its not going to hurt to let him go commando for awhile in the house just pants outside of the house. I am potty training to and going commando makes it easier to catch. I had to let him go commando for a while before he would agree to go to potty pants which took about a week. let him pick out his own big boy pants at the store. characters are the best and he picks his favorite character. when the first one trains the second will get jealous and do it too you are on the right track. he may need boxers too. most men wear boxers.

I found with both my children and now with my granddaughter that it takes a little while to get the hang of pulling up and down diapers/clothes. I know not everyone is comfortable with letting a little one run around with no bottoms on but it has worked with my children as well as my granddaughter. I only seem to remember one or two accidents with my children and only one with my granddaughter but I have hard wood floors so it is easy to clean up a little urine.

You could try using the sewing tool that removed the stitching on the tags that keeps the tags to the pants/underpants. I'm pretty sensitive to tags at times and I do this often. It looks like a sharp hook. My daughter is 2 and hates the adjustable elastic with buttons in her Gap jeans. I just tuck an undershirt into it. Maybe you could do that with his underpants?
Good luck!

Here are some potty training ideas that might help you out...

Maybe you could try rewarding him / bribing him with a gift or a prize / snack for wearing underwear and getting rid of the diaper..

I agree with Nancy. Let him pick out the underwear he wants. My grandson loves "cars" (the movie). The other grandson loves Spiderman. Thank goodness they make underwear with both "cars" and Spiderman on them. Once we brought them home from the store, neither of them could wait till they were able to put them on.

On the other hand, one of my other grandsons wanted underwear with basket balls on them. We could not find any in any store. Grandma was able to come to the rescue here. I bought some iron on transfer paper from Staples and printed some basketballs from pictures on the computer, then ironed them on the back of some plain white underwear for him. He loved them! I did the same thing for my grand daughter when she wanted "Kermit the frog" on hers.

And if all else fails, going commando works great also!

Let him pick the underwear out. Buzz Lightyear is always a hit. You know what your son(s) like..so go to Wal-mart and find them. Tell them the particular character wears them and get all excited about it.

Good luck.

I agree with Denise S. The only way I could get my son to understand the "potty training" concept was to go commando. Let him go commando unless you have to go out or you have company. Inside your home who cares what he wears or does not wear. Boys don't care about having clothes on, they would rather be naked.
