My sweet mellow baby is 5 1/2 months old and is having such a hard time with his teeth coming in. Since Thursday he is having trouble sleeping and is so fussy and upset in the afternoon and early evening. His sleep schedule has been compleletly thrown off. I finally saw his 2 TOP teeth moving forward and figured it out. (I kept looking for them on the bottom!) I have tried teething rings, homopathic drops, breast feeding (I am turning into the human pacifier), rubbing his gums, last night I finally broke down and gave him some baby motrine, but he was still up and crying for 2 1/2 almost 3 hours. The most confusing thing is that he wants to play and starts to calm down. HELP!!!!

What can I do next?

Get the frozen teethers with a plastic handle if you don't have those. A frozen washcloth is also good to chew on. Teething tablets are great and ibuprofen for those really bad times.

i loved the gentle naturals teething drops with my daughter. but if those didnt seem to work for you try the baby oragel that may be better. also try giving your baby a pop cicle to chew on. what i had to do with my daughter when she started teething at 4 1/2 months (mind you no teeth broke through till 7 months) was that i had to give her tylenol every 4 hours by drs orders. another good thing to try is a frozen washcloth. dont ever feel bad about having to give your baby pain meds as long as you do it responcibly theres no reason to feel bad. just think as soon as his teeth pop in he will be a totally different baby. good luck!

Sometimes keeping them distracted is the best thing to do! Just try your best to keep him busy so he doesn't think about the pain as much. Infant Tylenol also worked well for my daughter, so I used that at night so she could fall asleep...
Good luck :)

I know just what you are going thru. My son used to like to be distracted or entertained and then seemed to be fine. I did finally have to break down and give my son some baby oragel. I have also used a wash cloth (get it damp and put it in the freezer) and let him chew on it. If that doesn't work I then moved onto putting crushed up ice in a washcloth (tying it off with a rubber band). It is a bit messy but he LOVED it! Anything that you will give him to chew on should go into the freezer first so that it has a chill on it to give him some extra relief. Stay strong and know that even though he is 5 1/2 months giving him ibuprophen or motrin is fine as long as you follow the dosage. its not about his age. its about his weight! Keep up the good work mommy!

HI

I know what you are going thru, this will sound strange, but my doctor told me to give my son a (clean) leather belt (buckle removed), they will put it in the mouth like everything else at this age, it's not cold to touch has no taste and become a play toy at the same time. It is something tough for them to deal with. Also, using baby oral-gel and look for baby aspirin that says pain reliever on it. He will get use to the pain and he needs to, to build up is tolerance and this will pass soon. Do you use a pacifier?
Hang in there it's just a stage.
