So What Happened?

Hello Everyone!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Your responses to me have been extremely comforting! I started giving my daughter chilled teething rings which for whatever reason does not interest her! But the chilled wash cloths have been a hit with her and oragel at night. She still sleeps poorly but I guess that will change once she gets her teeth. Her diet is still a problem she is not interested in food still and takes a bottle instead so I have left it be.
I want to thank you all for helping with my question, it is a good feeling to know that iam not the only mom out there with questions to ask.
THANK YOU!

I feel that its normal for some kids. My daughter didn't get her first tooth til she was 11 months and then the teething process got better. It seemed like every week she had a new tooth. Some kids are different than others but don't let her not having teeth stop you from giving her some table food just be careful.

I just give tylenol and cold things to chew. Babies can be a year before they get their first tooth. I have heard the later the teeth come in the stronger they are.

My daughter didn't get her first tooth until she was almost one. The only things that helped us were Hylands Teething Tablets and Teething Gel. They are both homeopathic remedies. Good luck!

I think it is normal and since she is teething right now I bet they will come soon.
You can go to your health food store and get homeopathic remedies for teething (no chemicals, no drugs, no side effects). I used that for my son who had bad pain from teething and they always helped.
Where are you located at?

Hello S.,

Both of my children started teething very early. My daughter was 2 1/2 month old, when she got ehr first two! My son was just turning 4 months when his came. He is a year now, and has a lot of teeth in his little mouth, and keeps getting the side ones in now. What works for my kids is taking a spoon (baby spoon or a very small metal one) and putting it in the freezer. Then let the child chew on it. the hardness helps to break the teeth in and the coldness helps to numb the pain. Oragel seems to work ok also, but the kids don't like it vey much. I had baught a bottle of the teething pills at the drug store, you melt them in milk or water, and they are supposed to be good. I don't know, becasue my dog ate the bottle. Anyway, i hope this helps, and i gotta say, it is kinda nice to have children who's teeth come in later. It is hard when they are so very small, and their gums are so darn cute!

Hello-I have a cousin whose son did not start to get his teeth until he was about a year old. He then started to get them back to back! I have not used it, but have heard wonderful things about Hyland's teething tablets which are a homeopathic remedy. You can find them at any drugstore in the baby aisle. Hope this helps. Good luck!

It is normal according to the doctor's. My daughter started teething early but no teeth for awhile. Have you tried the baby oragel for her gums? Children tend to not eat as much when teething but make sure she drinks plenty of fluids and she will be ok.

The one thing to remember is nothing is "normal". Each baby is differnt. For discomfort, try giving her a frozen wash cloth.

My daughter is 13 months and only has her two bottom teeth that she cut back in April. Her teeth will come, don't worry. In the meantime Tylenol or Motrin and a refrigerated teething ring, as well as a Nuby sippy cup with cool water (the spout is soft).

Good Luck and relax. A lot of parenting is instinct!

My daughter didn't get her first tooth until she was 10 months old as well and then it seemed like they the first four all came at once. She seemed okay during the day but at night, she was really bothered. Our pediatrician told us that the orajel and anbesol stuff was not terribly helpful and that our best bet was to give her lots of things to chew on (frozen washcloth, teethers, a cold bagel--with supervision) and to give her a little infant Tylenol before bed. The Tylenol seemed to help the most, but she'd still often wake up after the dosage wore off; then (as long as enough time passed) we'd give her another half-dose to get her through the night. I know some people say not to pick up a baby at night, but during those teething bouts, we had lots of cuddling too. It was exhausting, though, and it sure was hard to comfort her some nights...

My daughter is a good sleeper, and I've come to learn that when she stops sleeping for jags at a time, it's usually because of teeth.

Good luck! Once those teeth pop through the gums, she'll be a lot more comfortable and you'll get more sleep! Hang in there!

Hi S.,

I'm a mom of 17 month old daughter and i'm from India too. And I remember that even my daughter when she was 10 months old wouldn't get proper sleep at night. I learned that they do that when they are having a growth sprout or when they are reaching a developmental milestone. It could be that she is teething bcos, when that happens they dont like to eat much and are irritable day/night. I hope this helps... I don't have my Mom to guide me so I have been figuring out about taking care of my daughter since she was born...So I can understand your situation too.

Hi S.. I also have a teething 10 month old. Teething rings and crackers seem to sooth her as well as a little infant tylenol when she is really cranky. I wouldn't worry about her not having any teeth yet, every baby is different.
Hope this helps.

The normal range for first tooth eruption is 4 to 14 months old, so you're fine.

My son is 11 months old, is teething and LOVES Baby's First Toothbrush by Baby Buddy. I ordered a pack from One Step Ahead (800-950-5120-call for a catalog) - they have great stuff for kids! My son will chew on this toothbrush for 1/2 hour at a time....apparently it massages tender gums & must feel really good. Maybe it will ease your daughter's discomfort. Good luck! Warmest regards, G.

Both of my children didn't get teeth until they were almost a year old. From what I was told by their dentist, the later the teeth come in, the stronger and healthier they are. I used infants motrin at night to help them sleep, a vibrating teether and a fruit net. You can get all of that at toys r us, babies r us and walmart. good luck.

My youngest was over 12 months before he got his first tooth, and it seemed that he was teething forever.

In addition to the other excellent suggestions here, I would add that I found comfort from Penelope Leach's books, and What to Expect The First Year, and What to Expect The Toddler Years. The authors of the What to Expect books stress that development doesn't come on a rigid schedule. What's more, a baby or child may "work" on one thing and not another.

My niece was about three before she had hair. My oldest was 14.5 months before he walked. My oldest potty trained late and started reading early.

Enjoy your baby!

Good morning S.,
This is normal. Some babies get teeth very early and some take their time. My third son was more than 11 months old before the first tooth showed up. I was wondering if we were going to have to get him dentures. ;-) You can get some "teething tablets" by Hylland's at a health food store that are wonderful! "Ledum" another homeopathic rememidy, is also great for teeth. It is usually concidered for "puncture wonds" . But if you think of it getting a tooth is like gettig a puncture from the bottom up. Also "Chamomillia" is a great rememidy for a "fussy baby" in general. I have learned to use homeopathic rememidies for most of the issues that come up with my "kidlets". There are no side effects, they do not interact with medicines, and if they work they usually work really fast, sometimes with in seconds.
I would also give my guys a cold carrot to chew on. They loved it because it was cold, it was firm, it had a tiny bit of flavor and they could hold it. Don't give then a "baby" carrot because they could swallow it but one cut about 4 inches or so long works fine. Also I would give them a baby tooth brush with a tiny tiny dot of baby tooth paste on it. It did the same thing as the carrot but it also got them use to "wanting" to brush their teeth. My kids never complained about letting me brush their teeth, many of my friends said it was a small battle for them to get their kids teeth brushed. The tooth brush was the "trophy" on the day the first tooth broke through.
I hope this helps!

Hi,
My daughter didn't start teething till she was almost 11 months, she has most of her baby teeth now (she's 22 months old) so not having teeth at 10 months is normal. I used Oragel on my daughter when she was uncomfortable (you can get it in CVS over the counter, just ask for baby Oragel). She also liked to suck on a wet (cold) wash cloth. Teething rings sometimes help too.

There are lots of avenues - it is just try and see what works for you - here are some of the ideas I have tried -
dampen a baby face cloth and put it in the freezer then give to your child to bite on (this one worked for me)
teething bagels - mini frozen bagels children bite on
teething rings - try two or three
motrin or tylenol before bed
oragel on the gums

My son didn't get his first tooth until he was 9 mos. My cousin Josh didn't get teeth till he was 2 yrs. There is nothing normal with a baby. He ate apples with no teeth. Anyway, you can give her baby Tylenol to help with the pain if it's getting to much for her. This may help her sleep.

Hi! I'm no expert, but having two babies allowed me to compare... my 13 months old began teething later than the first one which led me to believe that there isn't an exact date for teething.
I used "orajel" for teething. apply a drop of it on a favorite toy that goes to her mouth or directly with your finger. They usually don't sleep well because of the teeth trying to come out but it doesn't last long either (although it might seem like that)
Besides orajel, I use cold baby carrots, frozen waffles (just make sure it doesn't stick to your fingers before handing them to your baby. Good luck and lots of pacience!

Hello,
My husband is a board-certified pediatric dentist in Fairfield, CT. I asked him your questions. You do not need to worry at all that your baby does not have any teeth yet. The average child gets his first tooth at age 7 months. And if a child does not have any teeth by his first birthday, there is still nothing to be concerned. If by age 1 1/2 your child does not have any teeth then consult a dentist. For the behavior changes due to teething, the best recommendation is a cold teething ring. Good Luck!

Hi, yes it is very normal for you baby not to have teeth yet. all babies walk, talk, get their teeth at diffarant times. so do worry. Freeze teething rings let the baby chew on those, also you can freeze baby biscuits, freeze a wet wash cloth. You can freeze anything that you don't mind the baby chewing on to help with the sore gums. Also they have over the counter baby ambsol that would be good for when you put your baby to bed

Perhaps Motrin. I am not big on using pain killers, but after an ER visit (yes..I am paranoid) they recommended Motrin, and what a difference! I would talk to your doctor about Motrin and the dosage amount.

When my son was teething we tried a few things. There are over the counter gels that you can rub on their gums, this helps to numb the pain a bit. Any pharmacy/grocery store will carry them. You can also let your baby suck on a frozen teething ring, this helps to sooth the gums. Their are a lot of baby books with helpful hints, the internet or call your doctor for advise. Good Luck!

My little girl just started getting her teeth. She's 15 months old. I was worrying about her, and our Pedi. said that if I or my husband were late teethers then not to worry.

As for her discomfort try hylands teething tables or gel. They work wonders!
