I got granite thinking its stainproof from just about anything. We cooked breakfast one morning on a skillet and the bacon grease made a big stain on the countertop. And another area I put a pot down and it left a ring on the counter. It seems any grease or oil type products will stain because its natural stone even though its sealed. Has anyone had granite stains and how did you get it out. I am so upset because we got nice expensive counters and no companies we spoke with warned about these stains.
I do not have granite counter tops- but do know that a product called Bar Keepers Friend is great to get stains out of just about anything. You can find it in the cleaning isle at any store. Also Greased Lightning works really well. Just some ideas to try.
You need to have the contractor fix it or replace it. I dealt with the same thing in my last home. Apparently it is not real granite, just a very porous natural stone that needs to be resealed with very yucky stuff every 6 months. Please be aware the company that I used tried to get the stains out with some chemical stuff (before they ended up replacing it) and I happened to be 10 weeks pregnant at the time and I lost that baby. The stuff didn't work anyway. If you can have them replace it with real granite. Ask for a sample and make sure water does not saturate it; it should bead up on top. Good luck.
Try Lowes or Home Depot. I clean mine with a natural stone cleaner i got there, but I've not had to remove a stain. Maybe they have something for that too??? Good Luck!
my hubby used to do tile setting. He said you need to contact whoever installed your counters. It should have been sealed twice with a silicone impregnator- if it had been this would not have happened to you and also fyi you need to reseal every 2 yrs.
The contractor should still be responsible. Once a stain is in like that there is no way to get it out- however you can pay for the stain to be color matched to your granite but that is pricey.
We too have granite and have not had any problems at all with stains. I can set a hot pot on it directly off the stove, and have had all kinds of spills (I have 3 kids!) and have never had any stains. The contractor may not have sealed them properly or at all, and should have told you that you need to seal them every 6 months. As for the grease, I haven't spilled any, but it does splatter and we still haven't had any issues with it. You also do need to get cleaners specifically for granite. I have used premier surfaces ###-###-####) to regrout between two pieces and seal them and they did a great job. They were the only company that would come out to fix something without doing an installation. All the others wouldn't mess with such a small job. My friend chipped her granite with a wine bottle and Affinity Stoneworks came out and fixed it for her. Good luck!!!!

I understand your frustration. The company that put them in has an obligation to tell you how to take care of the countertop and too, they should be under warranty. There is a product you can buy for granite countertops that seals them so you don't have to worry about them staining because, unfortunately, they do. You can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. It comes with 4 cans in a box and I cannot remember the name of them. My husband's a contractor and I learned this by working with him. I agree that most likely it wasn't sealed correctly, if at all. We spill everything on ours and also put our extrememly hot pans directly on it without any problem. We do reseal ours with a simple wipe on and off sealer just to upkeep it (once a year). Really easy! Just make sure to keep acidic liquids (lemon juice for example) off the counter -it can eat at the sealant. And also make sure you never clean it with anything other than water, or granite cleaner. That will take off your sealant too. It's really not too bad if you keep those too things in mind. Good luck. You definitley need to call whoever installed them and have them replaced!!
Unfortunately I don't have an answer for cleaning as this has not happened to me yet but we were not warned of this. We have lived in our home almost 2 years and my hubbie just told me to NEVER get grease on the counter b/c the seal wears off w/ time and the grease seeps into it eventually. I sell granite countertops and that is information that we always tell our customers is to make sure it is properly sealed and to make sure you maintain it. Granite is very hard to get stains out of when they do occur. You should probably call whoever installed the granite and ask to have it replaced and properly sealed.
