our 3 year old daughter got Silly Putty all over a brand new cotton top. We tried to 'freeze' it like candle wax, and took it out of the freezer to try and chip it off , but it's still stuck on.
Any advice on this mistake.... we shouldn't have let her play with it!!!
I'd recommend the WD-40. It should take out the silly putty. You will have to wash the shirt a couple of times after that to get the smell of the WD40 out of the fabric. Personally, I've been amazed at how well WD-40 gets stuff out of fabric.
Oh yes, this happened to my daughter with her brand new dress! We froze the garment and chipped away as much silly putty as we could, then applied WD-40 to dissolve the rest. It took a few applications and lots of rubbing and picking, but it finally came out. Then we used Dawn dish soap to get the greasy residue from the WD-40 out of the dress. Good times! There was a faint mechanical odor for about four washes. Two years later, the dress is now a favorite shirt and no trace of the silly putty or stain.
eeek. I think it's too late. Anything that would take it off is probably going to ruin the fabric. Goo gone might? But WD 40 will for sure. I've been thru the same mess, and ended up having to toss it. And learned why I will never buy putty again (let's see--ruins clothes, carpet....)

sounds like instead of not letting a 3 year old play with silly putty, you should find her some clothes that she is allowed to play in and save the nice clothes for when she doesn't have access to toys.

Okay I know this sounds silly, but have you ever played with it? As you say it sticks to everything, even itself. Once you get some of it off, or if you have some more, stick it to the putty and quickly pull it off, it takes it completely out of the fabric, sorry it doesn't work on carpet. :) Good luck!

Try spraying it with some WD-40 or get some of that Goo Gone stuff. Both work wonders on this type of problem. Good Luck!
