My daughter (Ruby) is about to turn a year in Aug and I need some ideas, I was thinking of a Minnie Mouse theme. Any ideas, what kind of birthday party did you have for your child ?? I'm pretty excited but not trying to spend arm and a leg on a b-day party. So what do you lady's think ???

What can I do next?

I think an open house with some light snacks and cake OR CUPCAKES and invite the family to celebrate the milestone. Let the age be the theme have the number 1 all over the place.

1 year olds don't really have preferences nor are they aware of "themes" of their party.
It is mostly for the adults/parents and for picture taking for the scrapbook.

Also, being they are so young... they get over stimulated easily and tired... being around so much noise and crowds.
Common.

Also, plan any party, with her age and nap times, in mind.
In other words, do NOT... plan any party, that is at... her nap time.
Because, otherwise, the child will be tired/fussy and not in a good mood.
And at that age, a 1 or 2 hour party at the most, is long enough.

We didn't do one. We actually didn't have a birthday party for DS until he turned 4 - the first year he asked for one. One year olds have no idea what a birthday is. If you want to celebrate - just have a party. I see no reason for a theme.

Birthday parties are really for the family until the child is about 4-5. They usually don't know what's going on or care till they are a little older. So have a theme that you like for your baby, but gear the rest of the party to your guests. :)

I think Minnie mouse is sweet. Really, it's about the couple pictures and the family around her. Cherish the moment, which lasts a life time. Keep your money, which will last till she's about 6, then it's money, money, money!

We did small family only party for my kids 1st.. and a bigger party for the second. She will not remember it, so keep it simple.

Congratulations.

Like others have suggested - open house with lots of family and friends around, and good food! The baby won't remember it, but you will, so have fun and don't stress!!

I'm with a lot of the other moms: Ruby won't remember it; have a get-together with friends and family and keep the spending within a reasonable budget. Have fun and enjoy each other's company.

When my son turned one, my mom made a train-shaped birthday cake with cupcakes as the smoke out of the stack. My son got one of the cupcakes as "his" cake that he could get all messy with. I just invited close friends and grandparents. Bought a few decorations and a couple of gifts. At one, he will be more into everyone's excitement and the boxes and wrapping paper than anything else. He had received some stuff before he was born that was not meant for him till he was older so those were gifts we didn't have to buy. The main thing is, take LOTS of pictures!
Happy Birthday (early) Ruby!
