I am a nurse at Grand View Hospital in Perkasie and it has a wonderful Rehab facility. It is about an hour north of Philadelphia.

Could you tell me what area of the city you're in? It certainly helps to be close in proximity and my mom & I just went through this w/my grandmother. If you are only daughter you should be as close as possible.
Also, most important, whatever you choose, the staff have to see a presence... family member/s that care. If not, they tend to ignore the patients that keep calling for assistance.
As long as she has to go for a short period of time and is cognisant of her surroundings, though, you should be okay. BUT do a lot of visiting!

Try Montgomery Rehabilitation Hospital on East Evergreen Ave. very near Stenton Ave. My mother recovered from a broken rib one time and a heart attack another time there and it was really great for her. ###-###-#### (or maybe 6200). My mother is 87.

If possible, I would avoid the nursing home. My father was sent to a "rehab center" that was also a nursing home. He was in his late 70s as well. It was more of a nursing home that did a little physical rehabilitation. I think it helped my father to give up on recovering from a stroke, as he was surrounded by people who live in the nursing home.

Go to a true rehab center, like Moss Rehabilitation. Depending on the insurance, you may not get as long of a stay, but the physical therapy and rehabilitation will be much better.

Good luck.

L.,

I would not recommend something at home if she needs a lot of help right now... After the rehab facility, then in-home care would be an option. My dad is in rehab now and needs too much care to be at home, unless someone were with him 24/7, and no way would he receive the excellent PT and OT that he is receiving at the rehab. I'll send you a private message...

I honestly would see if her insurance co. would pay for a nurse to come out to your home instead. Then see if her insurance would pay for a transport only ambulance would transport her to and from her physical therapy sessions. I was an EMT (transports) and would not honestly recommend any!!!! If the insurance doesn't pay for any of that than i would just make sure you ask for references!! Good luck!
