Pregnant?? - Keller,TX

I too am an almost 38 year old and my husband I decided early this month to try for baby #4. I am usually pretty regular and have not been on BC for about 3 years. We just know when my cycle is and are very careful. So I was pretty sure of when I was going to ovulate (anywhere from 8/5-8/8). I started having a good bit of indigestion last weekend which is unusual. I took a pregnancy test (first response early HPT) on 8/15 which had a VERY faint positive line. I took a few since and each had a very faint line even with first urine. I was due to have my period on 8/21 and I didn't start. I have been very tired, using the restroom a lot and thirsty. So I took two tests this afternoon (First response & EPT) and they were NEGATIVE!!??? I am pretty confused since I should be about 17 dpo? Thoughts?

What can I do next?

I had the exact same thing happen to me last December. I did start my period about a week late. After describing everything to the doctor, she said it sounded as if it was a chemical pregnancy.

you could have low progesterone. the first thing I would do is go in for a blood test to determine pregnancy. there is a slight posibility that you were pregnant and did not get a good implantation and are waiting for an early miscarriage. the last tests you took may just not show up positive because you took them in the afternoon and do not have really high hormone levels yet. there is no way to know and get peace of mind unless you start or get a blood test.

M.,

If there was a faint line, no matter how faint, it's positive. Get the pregnancy test that actually spells it out--pregnant, not pregnant. The digital tests cost more, but you will probably spend that much on additional regular testing kits just to be sure. 10 months ago I had the same results and guess what, we have a beautiful 3 week baby girl! Good luck and God Bless!

It sounds like you may have had a miscarriage and will probably start in the next few days. If you don't already, I would highly suggest you start charting your temps, cervical mucus, and cervical position. Get the book taking charge of your fertility and it will give you a better understanding of where you are in your cycle. If all you got were faint lines, that would mean it was either a chemical pregnancy or you never produced enough hcg to sustain a pregnancy.

If you need any information or need assistance with understanding your charts, give me a shout. I have been doing this for over 10 years and consult a few women currently. One of the women I am currently helping had a hyperthyroid condition that didn't show up in her blood work. We found it based on her temps and she was able to ovulate for the first time in 2 years on her own last month. It's really amazing what you can see when you chart.

GL!

I was told there are false negatives, but not false positives. HOWEVER, I had the same thing happen once, as you have had...it was a faint positive, but only once. The only thing a drs office will do before 5 week checkup is give you the same type of pregancy test, so I personally would not go that route. The Dollar Tree has pregnancy tests that are just as accurate as the brand name tests. I would pick up a few of those, and experiment for peace of mind. Other than that, you could just wait...

If you took a test early in the morning and got a faint line and then tested in the afternoon and got the negative you probably are pregnant. There is more of the hormone that turns the test positive when your urine is concentrated. With me a faint line has always meant I was pregnant.

Yeah, Dollar Tree tests are surprisingly accurate. (I got a positive just 9 dpo with one!) Test again & use first morning's urine. If it's negative, it's negative, though it doesn't negate your previous positives. It just means the pregnancy didn't carry on. :(
If it's positive, it's positive (faint-ness doesn't really matter).
Keep us informed on what your results are this morning...*HUGS*

Faint line means you are pregnant, not doubt. Now the false pregnancy reuslts now could be 2 things...one, false negative. Or two, it wasn't viable pregnancy :(

Make an appointment with your ovgyn have them do blood work & they will test you HGC levels to see where they are at to see if the pregnancy will continue.

Best of luck!

I had very faint positive lines when I had my tubal pregnancy. I was almost 11 weeks pregnant before they discovered it. It was very well disguised. At one point they said I wasn't even pregnant (after a vaginal sono). that is how hard it was to see. The only thing that helped them to know I was still pregnant was a blood test. They were shocked. Make sure and go to the doctor. This is probably not what is going on with you, but you never know and it can be deadly.

I have to agree with the very first reply. I would got to the Dr though and ask for a Qualitative Pregnancy test to be sure. I would let them know what has gone on so that they will take you seriously.

There are NO false positives on a pregnancy test and a faint line IS a line. There can be false negatives though. You might have just taking it a little too early. So, I would have to say Congrats!

A positive reading on ANY pregnancy test means your pregnant for sure. It'll say so in the instructions. It's not possible to get a false positive, but it is possible to get a false negative.

M.,
I only read a few responses, but I had this same experience and had to respond as soon as I read a foolish premature congratulations. Modern technology lets us find out pregnancy very early. Even though the line was faint, you were almost certainly pregnant. Hopefully you still are, but since you have taken 2 negative tests since then, you may have lost the baby very early on. Yes, go to the doctor & have them check your hcg levels. I hope your negatives were false. If they weren't and you are no longer pregnant try not to be dismayed. The fact that you conceived so quickly is a good sign. 1 in 3 pregnancies end in miscarraige, but they don't tell you that until you have one. I had my first miscarriage in my 20's & my 4th at 41. You have 3 precious blessings, and odds are GREAT for you to have number 4. I hope you're just having false negatives. If you are not pregnant anymore, I am so sorry-- let God guide you & keep on trying! Good luck to you and your family.

Definately get a drs apt to check HCG in the blood.

I would say that the possibility of multiple false positives is next to zero. You definately were/are pregnant. Which explains your late/missing period. A possiblity is that the baby miscarried very early which would explain your now negative tests.

I have had this happen. It is still a huge disappointment. If this is the case you will have a "late" period.

The HCG should double every two days, so you really should go see your doctor to see what your levels are.

Hang in there!

Go see your OB/GYN for the blood work to confirm your HCG levels. We've had this happen....once, it turned out to be a blighted ovum--in other words, started to fertilize, but didn't finish, so I miscarried. Two other times, this happened, and the blood work showed very LOW HCG levels...I was told to prepare for a miscarriage, and they'd re-do the blood test in 2 days--it should double by then in a viable pregnancy. I have two miracle babies from those experiences! The blood work is the definitive answer....

I agree with the other post. I would definitely go to the Dr and have blood work done. I sounds like it could be a chemical pregnancy. I had one in April. Same thing happened.

My tests were first negative when fertility specialist told me to test. Then faint pink line. I was frustrated too! I tested every two days. Finally bought the digital pregnancy test. It says pregnant or not pregnant. Recommend that. I know mine is not the same as yours, but hope this helps. Wish you well!!!!!!!!!

When I got pregnant I took a test and there was a very faint line like you're having. I got online and read somewhere that "a line, is a line, is a line". I was for sure pregnant.

Good luck!

I had a very similar situation when I had an early miscarriage last year. Turns out my progesterone was low.
With this pregnancy, I also had low progesterone and was given a supplement (prometrium). I am now 25 weeks pregnant and expecting a baby girl in December.

I recommend going to your dr for a blood test. Request for a progesterone test. If you are indeed pregnant and have low progesterone, the supplements will help.

I have several friends who have had great luck with Prometrium. I wish you all the best and keep us posted.
