For those of you who know I had surgery in January for a carcinoid tumor, I have decided to go to Cancer Centers of America in Tulsa. I am tired of running all over the metroplex and having to tell the doctors the tests I need to have run. They can do everything I need there including the colonoscopy. A friend who is also a nurse will be going with me. that will be a big help because my husband has no vacation left due to my surgery and the death of both of his parents.

Steve Jobs died of this same kind of cancer. Having not heard of this before January, it is amazing how many people I now know of who have this "rare" disease. It just seems like it is in my face constantly and I want to talk to some doctors who actually know something about it.

So, will you please pray I can get some answers and hopefully a good prognosis?
TIA !
V.

I remember that you had a lung carcinoid and had surgery recently. I wonder why you're having to get all sorts of tests. I had a lobe removed with a carcinoid. I did have to go back to the surgeon for a post surgery check up but that is all.

Could it be that you're in need of reassurance which you're hoping to get in Tulsa?

Were they not able to remove all signs of cancer. I've been cancer free for 9 years. I think it's been that long. Yes, I had to have an CAT scan every 6 months the first couple of years and then once a year for the next 3. Is this what you're going to Tulsa for? And is Tulsa nearby so that you'll continue with the follow up there? It helps to have same person do the follow up over time.

I'm just feeling concerned for you and your fear. You don't have to be so fearful unless they weren't able to remove all the tumor and nearby lymph nodes. And if they've done a CAT scan of your trunk and it's clear.

Because, at one point, I was having symptoms that could indicate a carcinoid tumor I did have more tests but it was just that one time and it was a year after the surgery. I never had a colonoscopy. It's my understanding that would only be necessary if other tests showed the possibility of a tumor.

As to Steve Jobs. His tumor was in his intestines, the more common site and it is more difficult to cure. It would be rare for someone to have a tumor in both sites. I suggest that in Jobs case his first tumor had already spread and they weren't able to get it all. I've read that is more common with abdominal tumors than ones in the lungs.

Carcinoids are slow growing, Mine was the size of a quarter and had probably been there for 20 years. I just wonder if you're scaring yourself. Or have tests indicated the possibility of another tumor?

I'll pray for your trip and exam as well as for peace.

I lost my mom to the same disease many years ago, so I understand your frustration. Her greatest comfort was God's Word. Pour yourself into it and know that I will also be praying for you.

Victoria,
I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. My father-in-law had a 5 year battle with colon cancer and we didn't make to the Cancer Treatment Centers until the last few months. After seeing their integrative approach and the difference in attitude there, we felt like had we only found it sooner it could have made all the difference. I'm becoming a Clinical Nutritionist with a focus in Cancer prevention so have studied a lot both as a loved one and a practitioner. I also am in the high risk category (diagnosed with a precancerous condition) for breast cancer and had my first surgical biopsy last year, so although I have not been in your shoes I do come from a place of understanding. Recently, I have also read a lot about the use of the Gerson Therapy to fight cancer. In my opinion it is definitely worth looking into as well. My prayers are with you. Cancer Treatment Centers is unlike any other place, feel assured that you are in a good place.

Just saw your post Victoria and will continue prayers. And am about to look up this type of cancer after I let you know I will dedicate some time to thinking of you and praying.Don't know where you are at right now, but I had uterine cancer myself and even the word cancer is scarey (mine was caught early and I had a whole hysterectomy followed by many pap smears now down to two a year I think. I know I missed a couple of prayer days there, but praying all gets better and better and that God sends you peace and no pain.

Hello Victoria,

Me too, You will be with me in my prayers. I try to remind myself no matter what happen in my life, i will keep praying and put my trust in GOD. I wish you find the strength to not let this trial fail your faith in GOD.

Today, I find my young- beautiful hygenist with a lot of promising future ahead of her (28 yrs) being diagnose with the same kind of cancer we are talking right here . This is a shocking to everyone around her. She has been loosing lot of weights and extremerly tired daily, then the news came. She is in chemo and radiology for 6 months from now. You and I , we needed to pray for each one of us while we are on this temporaly life. Do you agree?
Tight hug, Victoria.
