I am looking to hear from moms of little boys and your experiences with potty training. I haven't started the actual training yet, just researching to get a potty chair and supplies. My son is 25 months old and just beginning to show some of the signs of readiness. Not sure if I should get a potty chair and which kind, start with a training seat on the big potty, the Peter Potty Urinal, start standing up or sitting down...... Help please!!!!

What can I do next?

Blessings to you and your family. I have four children, two of which are boys. They are much easier to potty train than girls! I used a regular sit on the floor type potty chair. Whatever you use, whatever his choice is, make him involved in the purchase, and don't pressure at all about the whole potty training thing. The more pressure, the longer it takes, trust me. Talking from experience, lol. Once little guys are tall enough to stand up to peepee they just LOVE that. I've even heard of parents putting "targets" in the toilet, like cheerios for them to shoot at lol. Best of luck, he'll do great.

This is what worked for me....I kept a "pepe goodies" jar in the bathroom. It was always full of cheap toys & candy. Everytime my son went to the potty w/out an accident he got to pick a treat from the jar. We made potty training a game & he was potty trained w/in 1 week. This game really seemed to help in the training process & i have a lot of friends who have tried & said it worked for them also. Good Luck!

L.-
i have a son who will be 3 in September and I take care of a boy who will be 3 this month. My son was potty trained very fast, he was very ready but I am still working on it with the other one, lol! I really love the bjorn potty chair and bjorn makes a seat for the big potty,. This one is perfect for boys because it has a lip that prevents messing on the floor.
I can tell you a timer works great for having them "try", they would sometimes get upset at me for having them go but when I made it a game with the timer they would stop what they were doing and run. I provided plenty of drinks- and treats work great. m&ms, sprinkles, fruit snack etc. when they are successful.
With my son I will tell you when we were just practicing, I used pull ups ( telling him they were big boy pants and they would leak...out, but at home let him go around the house naked.
Once I got serious and knew he could do it- I completely removed diapers and put him in underwear. I am a strong believer that going back & forth, even with pullups, is confusing. We now only use a diaper at night immediately before or after he falls asleep.
My son sat down at first but once he learned how fun it was to stand up he would rather do that. The other boy I am working with has mixed feelings on standing up so it just depends what he feels comfortable with- Easier at public toilets when they stand. :)
I hope I helped and good luck!

Hi L.,
My son is now 4 years old, but when began potty training (also around 2 years old) the best thing I did was have him peepee with Daddy.

Good Luck,

I am not sure where the Trinity area is but Baby Bungalow in South Tampa has a potty training class for Mom's and/or Dad's. It cost 5.00 for the class when I took it and there was free supervised play for the children while the parents took the class. It was very helpful and enlightening. Took all the stress and worry out of the process. My daughter was trained in 2 weeks. It was a class that I was so glad I did not do without.

Hope this helps!

In my experience we bought a stoll for him to stand on. He would lift the seat and lean forward holding on to the back. This way the potty goes in the toliet and he doesn't have to aim the way he stands over the toliet puts it right where it needs to go. I figured if I start training him by sitting down he was just going to have to learn to stand up and do it. By doing it this way it put in his head at the very beginning that we always lift the seat and put it down also...something my husband still forgets to do. It worked very well...the few times he sat down pee was everywhere. Also, if you keep him on a schedule where he goes certain times of the day and times you know he has to go like right when he gets up you will be much more successful because he actually does it. I hope this helps you. My son was completely potty trained into underwear within 3 months which for boys I hear often takes a lot longer. Good luck!
