I may have possibly gotten pregnant only a week ago and my normal period starts around the 15th of the month (usually never this early)... I woke up today with worse than normal cramps, tons of blood... Sheets, shorts, etc... To the point where I just threw all the items away. Then I went to the bathroom and more and more blood came out. Just a lot more than normal. - have never had a miscarriage so have no idea what to expect. - have a healthy 15 month old. Should I wait to call the doctor to see if the bleeding lasts as long as my period normally does. 9an a miscarriage last that long? Thanks:)

What can I do next?

I think the rule is if you're soaking through a pad an hour, that qualifies as a LOT of bleeding. It does sound like an early miscarriage. Please take it easy on yourself today, and if you feel faint, definitely get some medical help.

Even if it isn't a miscarriage, if you continue bleeding that heavily, something could be going on (especially if you're a week early) that needs attention. I would call the doctor.

It's also possible that your last period was "breakthrough" and you were farther than you though in a pregnancy ... happens occasionally and could be the cause of this much bleeding. Still, call the doc if it doesn't ease off.

Call your doctor's office and ask to speak to a nurse. Tell her everything and ask her if you should come in or just wait it out.

Best wishes :)

Heavy bleeding can have lots of causes though, from fibroids to clotting issues. I would put in a call to your doctor for advice.
Also if you are soaking a pad in an hour or start getting lightheaded go to the ER. Do not drive yourself, call an ambulance if you have no one to drive you in that case.

I wish I could remember the exact timeline but if fertilization only happened last week it would not cause this reaction even if it didn't implant.

I would call your doctor because it may not be normal to have your period a week early and it be heavier than normal. Just curious though, if you were taking birth control pills before and went off of them to get pregnant how long ago was that? I had really messed up periods (not on schedule, very heavy to not at all) for a few months after going off the pill.

An early miscarage will only last as long as a period anyway. You may never know if you were preg. I had a possitive pregnancy test once and bleed a few days later. Blood tests where inconclusive. With my second miscariage at 11 weeks, I was more certain that the first one was in fact a miscarage and not just a false possitive pregnancy test followed by a period. The difference- lots and lots of clots.
