Party Ideas for a 2 Year Old in December

Trying to decide what to do for my daughters 2 year birthday December 18th. Don't know if we want to do something at home or go somewhere. I"m looking for ideas that are reasonable in price and inside since it might be cold. I don't mind having something at the house but don't know how to keep everyone entertained. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

I would have a holiday theme and let the kids and moms decorate their own gingerbread houses to take home. Or maybe just gingerbread men if the houses are a lil too much. Play Christmas music, put the decorations out, have eggnog.
I saw another cute idea online where each table had a lil bucket with sticks that had holiday candies and marshmallows on them just like kabobs! It was so cute I have to try it sometime.

hey! Im having my first in January...but my birthday is December 17th! I remember one year my mom and dad took me and some friends ice skating and I LOVED it...we had a pizza party and all that. idk if theres anything close like that around you but you could check it out if you think your daughter would be interested in that...I know now she's probably too young...but for future ideas.

I live in Chicago now, so we are close to museums, and theres an aquarium and all kinds of stuff downtown we can chose from. I was worried about the same thing with having our first baby in January and living in Chicago...his birthdays are going to be hard to plan. Winter birthdays aren't so fun.

Maybe since she's so young you could find a Chuck-E-Cheese or something. I know its not amazing but with her being that young she might not care.

sorry Im not much help :( lol but let me know what you decide on! I could use some ideas too! lol

For a 2 year old, winter birthday party I'd say just have a party at your house. Keep it short, like for 90 minutes (but plan for it to go) 2 hours. Just put out a few toys popular with kids that age. Don't invite too many...keep it small and simple.

Maybe go with a theme? We did a princess party at home for my daughter's (November) 2nd b-day. We encouraged everyone to dress like a princess or prince/knight. I had one of those nylon castle-shaped tents we set up for them to play in. And I had a couple of simple, princess-themed crafts out. If the kids wanted to do the craft, that was fine. If not, they could take one home to do with mom later.

You could also do something like the community pool. They probably have a party room. But parents would need to get in the water with their kids.

If you live near one of the Rainbow Play Systems show rooms (there is one in New Hudson just outside Wixom/Milford/South Lyon) they have a party room and the kids will be able to play on all the display models set up in the showroom. But it may run more than you're looking to spend.

Are you inviting a bunch of other 2 year olds? I mean..most 2 year olds can make a cardboard box fun and entertaining.

For me..I didn't do elaborate parties for my kids when they were under 4 yrs old and they never even noticed. They had so much fun just opening their presents and making a mess while eating their cake.

My friend had a large party for her 2 year old and you know what? She had no idea what was happening with all those people around. She got to her 2nd gift and decided she wasn't interested in anything else becoz she fell in love with that one.

My son's birthday is the 28th of December...I'm having a hard time with his 3rd birthday, just because he's at a point where he is making a lot of friends...But for his 2nd birthday I didn't go all out at all! In fact, it was just his grandparents & 2 cousins. I like it a lot.

It was still fun to celebrate, but we didn't do to much. He had a "construction" party so we did everything w/ tractors & dirt! I'd keep it simple just for your sanity j/k!! BTW what I wanted to do with my son this yr but the tickets were sold out...Maybe you kind find something similar in your area, in my city they have an old train that they set up like the Polar Express. They serve hot cocoa, get a 1hr train ride & a little gift. Maybe you kind find something like that, just to create a memory for her :)

Good luck my Birthday is the 27th of December and my Mom always had a hard time planning my birthdays. It became way easier once I was older. Ice skating, bowling, miniature golf, roller skating etc...And in all reality I don't remember any of them before the age of 5 :) Just what I see in the photos :)

Good Luck I'd be eager to know what you decide...as I'm still looking for ideas too :)

pinatas can be done indoors, but two year old's won't be able to break it...
Pin the tail on Donkey?
Or I made a snowman and cut out orange carrots to 'pin the nose on the snowman'
I even made a snowman cake, easy to do with basic round pans.
Cupcakes with blue-coconut sprinkled on top?
My niece's 1st birthday is a TUTU party so everyone comes in a tutu :)

A couple of the rec centers in Denton rent out the gym for a couple hours. In it, they have bikes, balls and a bounce house. I've been to a couple at Denia Rec center, but I think North Lakes also does it. Aslo, Ive heard First Baptist off Malone rents their gym out with a bounce house and other things and you don't have to be a member.

If you aren't inviting too many kids, then you could have a fun party at your house.

Good luck!!!

hey there, my little boy's turning two on 12/1...so excited! anyway, i have limited income and decided to do it at home. i still want it to be special of course for him, but it will be b/c we'll have a couple of my friends and their babies and my aunt. i think it's a good idea to not have too many people so he can still enjoy himself and not "act" 2. :)
i'm looking forward to his, just a little get together. it definitely IS a big deal, but NOT a big money deal, if that makes any sense. chucky cheese is probly where we'll be headed next year, but they're still so young right now to do too much, y'know?
anyway, happy early bday to your little angel! :)
