Party Game Ideas Needed

I am searching for party game ideas. It is a "Mario Brothers Party" in which the kids will need to find and collect small plastic gold coins throughtout the various games. So far, I have a "Yoshi Egg Hunt" which will be like an Easter Egg Hunt with the coins in it, and have the kids poppling ballons by sitting on them, and when they pop, there will be coins in them. My son wanted "MESSY" and "gross" games, so I also am filling a baby pool with wet oatmeal and hiding coins in that, and they will have to dig thru the oatmeal and find the coins, but that is the only messy one I could think of.
I would LOVE to get more ideas. The messier the better - it is outdoors, and they will be washing off afterwards with sprinkler play. The kids are mostly 5-8 years old.
Thanks for your ideas and help!

Fill the balloons with pudding or something along those lines.
Maybe some kind of eating contest where the coins can be hinden in the food item for them to find using only their face.
Enjoy! By the way I love the theme!

J.-
I want to come to the party! What fabulous ideas that you have! The only thing I could think of was if you put the coins in cupcakes they could smash them (and then lick their fingers). I hope you all have a blast and good luck as you prepare your little man!

You can also put several boxes of Corn Starch in a baby pool (I used about 15 boxes) along with some foodcoloring (will not die their clothes or swimsuits) and then add water. The cornstarch makes magic mud (it is a solid until you pick it up and then it liquifies.

I did this for my daughter's 3 year old party and it was a HUGE hit. The kids loved playing in the "mud". Ours was pink and it worked wonderfully.

Actually this would probably be a lot cleaner than the oatmeal that you are planning on using but would still have the gross factor that you are looking for just without the mess.

Good luck.

Get a slip 'n slide - kids LOVE them and they are cheap especially since most stores have all water/summer toys on clearance right now. All our kids have summer birthdays and we have water balloons, slip 'n slide and sprinkler every year and it's a hit.

For specific ideas, just google 'birthday party ideas mario'. There are dozens of websites devoted to nothing but ideas for birthday party themes and some break the tips/ideas up by age.

You could do sort of like a scavenger hunt. You give them a clue where a coin/coins are hidden and they have to figure it out. I maybe like an I spy with my little eye type of thing.
Good luck!!

I've seen people put whipped cream in balloons so that when you pop them, there's an added mess. I would imagine you'd have to use the kind in the spray can. Could you somehow tweak bobbing for apples to fit your theme? Not sure how you could do that for coins though. The corn starch and water that the previous poster mentioned is really cool! We've done that (on a much smaller scale) and it's always fun. Could you use Jell-O to make some kind of slime? Take whipped cream and spread a really thick layer over a card table and "bury" the coins in it. I think your party sounds AWESOME! The kids will have so much fun! The only thing I would suggest is making sure the parents know ahead of time that the kids are going to get messy. I know we always try to dress our best for parties and I would hate to think of someone not being able to participate because they're wearing "good" clothes. They are going to have so much fun though! :)

J. - how about hiding coins in jello, cooked noodles, coolwhip or whipped cream, pudding... hopefully this will give you a few more places to creatively hide the golden coins.

How about a pie in the face with coins in the pie? Or maybe just a pinata filled with coins? That's not messy, but you could put slime of some kind in it since they're pretty durable. Have fun!!
