So, my kids will most likely be with their dad the majority of the summer. For the past 16 years, my summers have been going to baseball & softball games and other family activities. Don't get me wrong, I still do non-child centered activites, but you get my jist.

My bf and I will have his boys every other weekend, but what would be some fun things for just the two of us to do? I'm good for a couple weeks, but need some non-routine things to keep me from missing the kiddos too much.

Last night we had a fire on the patio and grilled steaks - yum! Monday we had ice cream for supper and watched a movie.

so, bring on the fun out-of-the box ideas???

pick an area of your locale & just explore. Check out stores, check out restaurants. Here in MO, we have brown signs for conservation areas.... & I love hitting them! Drives my DH nuts. :)

sometimes our exploring is at home. I challenge my family to fill a bag for donations/yard sales/etc. Anything to bust the clutter!

& food-wise: pick a country & plan a whole menu around that country. We did this during my teen years, & my family loved it! That's how we spent many Sunday afternoons.....

I admit I'm very weird but I would probably take on some special projects around the house. The big kind where you don't want the children under your feet while doing it. To me that's fun. Like rearranging a room or painting the walls, building furniture, or something like that.

Picnics are fun.

Board games with an adult twist (use your imagination here). Cooking gourmet meals together. Going new places on the cheap (I recommend living social highly for great things to do at cheap prices). Take a class, get a hobby, read some great books, etc.

Enjoy your life even without the kids. They are only small for a brief period of time. Then they grow and leave your house and then you have to figure it all out. Why not figure it out now?

Wow, that's a tough one! What to do when the kids fly the nest! I dream of those days!

Well, my number one goal/idea for the day that becomes my problem is to be able to exercise. I love to ride bike long distances but just don't have the time to do that. I also love to kayak, but again, it's hard to leave 2 kid sitting on shore! Orienteering or geo-caching is a really fun activity for couples. Look around for adult education classes you both might enjoy. How about starting a small garden?

I also have a few hobbies like sewing that i am passionate about which will fill some of my time, but I realize the sewing is a one-person non-interactive activity.

You can go to the park on a nice starry night and pack some food. Like soft warm bread (heat and wrap in tin foil) with some butter, oil and parsley it's delicious, and some wine, or sparkling cider and lay on a blanket while looking at the stars.

Go see a movie last minute. Or a comedy show is fun and different too!

Pick a restaurant you've never been to and try the food.

Find another couple and do a double date.

Do something crazy and fun. Something you did when you first started dating, or when you were kids. Bowling, lazer tag, etc.

Go to a make your own pottery class or glass blowing is cool too.

Fairs, carnivals are a blast at any age. Even if you dont like the rides there are plenty of booths full of things, and the food is yummy!

Even just go for a walk at the closet beach at sunset. It's romantic and quiet.

Whatever you do just have fun, and enjoy the alone time! :)

I keep up with the things going on around town, especially the free or low cost events. Festivals, Movies in the park, Chess in the Park concerts.

Trivia for Nerds at different places. Seems like they go on Tuesday or Wed nights.

Book stores when authors come to town.

Drive in Movies..

Or we grill, go on picnics, go on day trips in the car to little towns to their events.
