Need Maternity Dress for Special Occasions

I am a little over 3 mos pregnant (baby #2)and my husband is taking me on a cruise for Valentines day/weekend. I need a cute, semi-formal evening dress to wear to the nice dinner on the ship. My baby bump is showing but so far all maternity dresses/clothes are still a bit big for me, even XS. Unfortunately, regular clothes are a bit snug. I tried up-ing a size and it looked weird. Got any ideas or suggestions? I'm hoping to wear whatever dress I get for my friends wedding in April as well. Is this possible?

What can I do next?

Try a dress with an empire waistline (i.e., the waist just below the bra) and a flowing skirt. I have a maternity dress like this and it also has a tie in the back that allows the dress to adjust as you do. I'd let you borrow it, but it's got a flowery print, so it's more of a summer dress than a semi-formal one (and too cold for February).

Kid-To-Kid (on Eldorado and Lake Forest in the Kroger shopping center) sells gently used clothing for kids and maternity clothes also. You might be able to find something inexpensive in there that you can wear to both (or maybe even two inexpensive things, one for each occasion).

While I was seven months pregnant I had to find a cocktail dress for my husbands Christmas party. I tried all the maternity dresses but found them to be a little to short, since my bump was large, or to revealing. I found a bunch of dresses at Group USA in Grapevine Mills Mall. I was a little embarrassed at first to go in as I was obviously a large pregnant lady, but the sales girl was awesome and said she had helped a few pregnant ladies that week. I found the perfect dress and got lots of compliments. I suggest non maternity dresses. Best of luck. Congrats on your little bump.

There are a lot of CUTE babydoll type dresses out now that would hide a baby bump and be in your size.

Go with an empire waist in your regular size. Plenty of breathing room since it cinches in just under the breast and then falls away over the tummy. I wore this style until I was about 6 months along. All of the maternity lines were too big.

You might try going to the Women's section in Dillards -- they have pretty cocktail dresses in larger sizes, which will be long enough and fit your stomach, then you can have the areas that are too loose altered to fit your body.
