this is going to sound strange - I know. I was leary at first too. At GNC they sell Clove Oil (actual oil) it's around 6.00 with tax. Put it in between the little ones toes - because there are nerve endings there - it helps with the teething pain. Strange, I know!!! Do not put the oil on their gums - it will blister and cause more pain!! It's only for inbetween toes... and put socks on the lil one too, so they can't get their feet in their mouth.

I was skeptical, but at my wits-end - and tried it. It seriously does work.

Good luck!

Lots of cold damp wash cloths that are cool to bite on, you can rub a little wine on them at night time, or even afternoon it just help sooth them, it works like orajel but tastes better, my doctor for my son told me that about the wine, my son had two bottom teeth at two months old surprised the doctor, enjoy your baby be patient too, S. My dear V.,

I'm feel your pain so much. My daughter is 6 1/2 months now and started teething when she was 2 months. I absolutely recommend the teething tablets and then tylenol if they aren't helping any. The tablets suggest to use 2 to 3 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. Because my daughter was so young I only gave her 1 every 4 hours if she needed it and it seemed to work just fine. As she got older of course I gave her more at a time. I guess the best thing is to just try trial and error. Mom's know what is best for their child. I really hope this helps you.

I used to take 3 or 4 wash cloths and wet them down with water and fold, twist, and crumple. Put them in the freezer for about 5 mins or so until they are frozen. Then let your little one unravel and chew on the wash cloth. The coldness numbs the gums and the roughness feels good on the sore gums. I don't know about you, but when my teeth or gums are irritated....I tend to chew more on that side. Don't know why that is, but I do. But anyway, the wash clothes will unfreeze kinda fast that's why I said about 3 or 4 in the freezer. I don't know if he is holding onto things quite yet, so you might have to hold it for him for a little while. I think I did this when my son was a little older. Good luck. We also used orajel nighttime
too.

Homeopathic teething tablets from the natural section at Fred Meyer! They are amazing. I can't remember the brand (Hyland?), but they work! I used them for both of my kids. There is a whole line of products: teething tablets, earache tablets, colic tablets, etc. You can also take a wet washcloth a freeze it. My kids loved gnawing on that! Good luck!

Hi V.,

I am sure others have recommended this but we used the Teething Tablets with our little one, they are an all natural soother that melts almost instantly in the mouth.

They were a great help late at night/early mornings.

I hope this helps and it will get better!

Teething is such a rough time, and to start it so early, poor thing. Both of my kids seemed to be soothed by chewing on a cool carrot too large for them to bite a chunk off or choke on. Once they get top and bottom teeth though they start to bite chunks off so I had stop using them. But they loved cool firmness yet subtle softness of them until then. I never liked them chewing on plastic toys because you never know which toys have PCB's in them, or paints that will come off during chewing. Both my kids like to chew on my bent finger until they get too strong and it starts to hurt lol. This next year is an entire year of teething, so good luck.

Hyland brand teething tabs!!! My oldest loved them. They dissolve in the mouth. He learned that they bring relief so that whenever I even shook the bottle as I was getting it out, he would suck his fingers to self soothe until the tabs got in and took over.

V.,

They have the teething toys that my kids loved to chew on, but only if they were room temperature. Neither one would touch the things if they were in any way chilled.

Popsicles, chilled baby washcloths, Oragel Nightime Formula. That stuff really works. I had a trace amount left on my finger and without thinking I licked my finger to clean it off. My whole mouth went numb.

Finger/knuckles also work, but you get all slobbery and wet.

Most of all, don't be afraid to put him in a safe place when you just don't know how to stop the fussing. My son started teething and cut his first teeth about two weeks later at 4 months old. My daughter started teething, and teething, and teething and didn't cut her first tooth until about 11 1/2 months.

Best of luck and lots of patience,
Melissa

Hi V.,

Hiland's Teething Tablets did wonders for our daughter in the night, especially. Also, the store Simple Cloth in downtown Olympia has great BPA-free teethers!

Good luck,

hi! when our babies went thru this, tylenol seemed to help, along with a wet wash cloth (all wrung out) for them to chew on. kept them busy, plus the rough edges felt good on their gums! simple yet effective :)

We use hazelwood necklaces as an amazing alternative to meds for teething pain. The wood absorbs the acid in the body when it is in contact with their skin. The pain associated with teething is mostly caused by an acidity surplus in the body which explains why many teething babies also develop diaper rashes from having acidic stools. We have found it to be extremely helpful in relieving teething pain in our 3 kiddos. Even more significantly, it has completely relieved the symptoms of eczema that our youngest had. Apparently the root cause of many forms of eczema is acidity as well. The website that sells the necklaces is www.hazelaid.com
We use the necklaces in combination with Hyland's teething tablets when the pain is a bit more severe.

Hi V.,

Each baby is different, but one or several of these suggestions should help you.

* freeze a damp washcloth and let your baby chew on it
* let your baby chew on a cold carrot (a large whole one to avoid choking)
* www.punkinbutt.com/punkin-butt-amber-teething-necklace-p-... Amber Teething Necklaces to be worn during the day when you are watching over your baby. If you need nighttime comfort, you can wrap it around the ankle to provide continued comfort and pain relief without risk of strangulation
* www.punkinbutt.com/punkin-butt-teething-p-1893.html Punkin Butt Teething Oil (miracle in a jar!) It has clove, peppermint and chamomile oils that provide pain relief, calming and soothing elements and antiseptic/anti-inflammatory properties. It is safely diluted so you can put it directly on the gums for immediate relief and it tastes good!
* Hyland's teething http://www.punkinbutt.com/hylands-teething-tablets-125s-p... tablets or www.punkinbutt.com/hylands-teething-p-2483.html gel. Works wonders on some babies and doesn't make a difference on others.
* Baby Tylenol, Baby Ibuprofen are great pain relievers, but should be used in moderation to avoid damage to the liver.
* Baby Orajel - works really well too!
* If you are nursing, extra nursing and cuddling helps relieve the mental stress your baby is experiencing as well.
* Teethers are great too. Just make sure you get safe ones. I like ones filled with sterilized water. They can't be frozen, but if they ever break, there aren't any chemicals inside that will harm or poison your baby. The www.punkinbutt.com/apple-teether-p-2213.html apple and www.punkinbutt.com/fish-teether-p-2214.html fish teether by Natursutten are awesome!
* Baths - some children find the weightlessness brings comfort, so fill your tub and take a bath with your baby, the very least it will provide a good distraction!

Hang in there and remember it's temporary!
