My 3 Year Old Threw a Fit When It Was Time to Go to Ballet Class.

I guess I need a parenting lesson because I honestly do not know how to handle this situation. My 3 year old started ballet last week. (Shes been asking to take ballet so we signed her up.) She went to class has a FABULOUS teacher and had a great time. At the end of class she saw me watching in the window and started crying. Her teacher tried to console her but finally let her come out to me. (Her diaper had leaked a bit but she didnt mention that was the reason she was crying.) I changed her diaper and she gave the teacher a hug goodbye.
This week when it was time to get dressed for ballet she threw a huge fit and said she did not want to go to ballet. When I asked her why she could not verbalize a reason. I am at a loss. I do not want to force her to go if she does not want to. But I also dont want her stop going because she might associate ballet with the leaky diaper episode. I want her to learn that when we commit to something we follow through. (Is that even a lesson a 3 year old can grasp?) Any advice on how to handle this situation would be great. I feel like a total rookie because I do not know how to handle this and am actually quite frustrated. Thanks

What can I do next?

my daughter did that and what she told me is that she was "shy" to go in. Well that meant that she was embarrassed because when you walk in everyone looks at the child that has come through the door. So we started arriving a little earlier so all the kids were not in the room when she walked in. I can imagine how that feels. But, what this did it gave her time to have some alone time with the teacher and not have all the kids look at her as she walks in. I also didn't linger in the class. But, i would definitely not pull her out. that is just a stage and you won't want her to think that we can do this everytime we come here or even school or anywhere else. Hope this helps!

Definition of a 3 year-old - want to be independent, but still too insecure to pull it off. Thus the 3 year-old drama.

I can relate we went through that last year with our daughter who also was 3. She was in Dance ballet and tap dance, She was so excited to go and enjoyed getting ready.
She got to pick out her outfits and we would go. She liked it for about a month and right b4 the fall festival she bailed. She would cry and scream the teacher was mean to her. I think they were just trying to get ready for the dance but she was really scared. I took her to the dance festival so she could see them dance but I didn't make her dance she liked watching but she didn't want to go back. I felt like you do but at the same time I figured she only 3 and if she scared than its not worth it. It's been a year and she is still afraid to try even a different one. Also with dance they want you to leave so they can practice and I think maybe is scary Mommy is leaving. I think maybe she assoc this together. When I take my son to soccer we stay and watch the whole time. So I think maybe its confusing why we can't stay and watch. I don't know if this helps but what we went through. We try and find activities were we can stay and watch and she seems to like that better.
