My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the past 7 months. i was on the pill for many many (14) years and stopped in August 07. i have had very regular periods up until this past period. I am now 3 weeks late. i have taken multiple home pregnancy tests and including a blood test....all negative. i have an appointment on April 1 w/ Dr. Brass-Jones (which i found from someone else's response on Mamo...thanks!). i just have never been in this position and do not know what to ask the doctor to do (ie tests to perform). i'm not good at the whole "wait it out, don't worry about it" that most doctors in the valley tell patients. endometriosis and ovarian cancer run on both sides of my family. this entire month i have felt as though i could start my period any day (moody, tender breasts, back aches, neasuous) so to be honest i was surprised i am not pregnant. Any advice would be helpful, especially someone that may have had a similiar experience or at least was on the pill as long as i was. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Would you believe that last Friday i decided to try another at home pregnancy test and IT WAS POSITIVE. 4 more positive tests later and i'm finally convinced I'm actually pregnant! i called the doctor and switched my appointment to an "initial" appointment instead of the well woman's appointment. so i go in on April 1 to make sure the baby is safe and developing. Thanks so much for everyones responses and encouragement. I still can't believe i'm going to be a mom!!!

I still think you can be pregnant. The home pregnancy tests/ blood tests are not foolproof. They have had false negatives.

From what I understand Dr. Brass-Jones will help you with your fertility issues - assuming you're not pregnant already. As far as tests to perform to test for fertility problems, talk with Dr. Brass-Jones about this. She'll probably run blood tests to make sure you're hormones are in balance. Some of the tests have to be performed at specific points in your cycle, such as FSH. An online source for information about fertility issues is www.haveababy.com. There you can find all kinds of topics to help prepare you for your appt. with Dr. Brass-Jones.

Have you been to Dr. Brass-Jones website? They have some info there too www.trueharmonywellness.com.

I would quit trying and just enjoy each other as a couple. That's what I did and shortly found out I was pregnant. Also if you have been under alot of stress that could cause you to miss your period. I thought I was pregnant one time because I went all month w/o having a period and I did the whole home pg test and it came back negative. Just take hot baths to relax and go to Bath & Body works to get their stress free antibactial body wash. It spells wonderful and will help you relax.

Hope this works and good luck w/ getting pg.

Just to let you know... Sometimes a pregnancy test doesn't come back positive till quite a ways in. Luckly for me they have always been positive right away, but for a friend of mine she was about 10 weeks along before her test came back positive. She had all the signs and symtoms of being pregnant, like it sounds like you have.

it all depends on your level of pregnancy hormones, sorry I forget what they are called at the moment... so it could go either way, The best of luck in getting pregnant and I hope you do soon!

Twice in my life i missed my period and wasn't pregnant. The period came as usual the next month. Nothing was wrong. Just keep trying! I know it's hard work, but force yourself!

I had this same thing happen to me last August and I called and made an appointment with my OBGYN. They did every test under the sun and everything came back normal! The doctor had talked to me about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome because I had other signs, but my hormones showed that everything was normal. Once I stopped stressing out about things and started exercising everything went back to normal. Stress plays a big part in our whole well-being and we might not even know we're stressed sometimes, but we are. It took us a year to get pregnant and it wasn't until my husband and I were both jobless that we got pregnant. Sounds like we would have been more stressed trying to find jobs, but in all actuality our jobs were what I feel had kept us from getting pregnant. I wish you all the best!

I'm sorry that I don't have any real advice to offer, but I was on the pill for 15 years. According to my OB, it is a myth that being on the pill for a long time has an impact on your ability to conceive. I was lucky and we conceived within a few months after stopping the pill. I don't think there's a connection with the length of time you've been on the pill.

N., while I really cannot relate to your situation I can tell you that Dr. Brass is an amazing doctor and you should absolute feel safe talking openly and candidly with her. She loves helping people plan for pregnancies and will help you in any way that she can. I was on the pill for 12 years I think before I got pregnant and I know it can take a while for you to conceive. Make sure she knows your family history so she can run appropriate tests etc. Also, don't feel that any question is stupid! I pestered her all the time while I was pregnant and she was wonderful every time (and her staff is too). Hang in there and good luck!
