There are some workout routines that are meant to be used for both mother and baby, and they target the post-baby body. If you type in "mother baby workouts" on google, you will get a lot of Web sites to look at.

One of my favorite exercises from Parents magazine has me lie on my back, knees bent, feet flat on the floor. Baby is "holding on" to my knees. I lift my feet, hold it, and put my feet back down. It definitely works the abs!

Is there a stroller fitness program, such as Stroller Strides, in your area? It's great because it is a fitness class that you bring your kiddo to with you! It gives you the chance to get a total body workout, including abs for the post-baby body, plus you get to meet other moms and your little one is around other kids, singing songs, and learning the importance of exercise.

A., I like the Walk Away the Pounds videos by Leslie Sansone. I can't get out to excersize since my kids keep me running - so I like to walk early in the morning before they get up. It's also a little quite time for me. But there is a couple to target the belly area. You may check out her web site to get the vidos. Good luck and thank you hubby for his service (and you too!). I'm an Army Brat - my dad is till active and in Iraq right now. He's getting ready to retire, says the too old to be going to playing in the sand.

Invest in a workout DVD or tape that you can do in your livingroom. My daughter got a total kick out of the music and seeing me do my workouts that way. Sit ups and leg lifts before bed are great, and stretch whenever possible!

My daughter isn't a 1 year old yet so I don't know how much she sleeps and stuff but I would suggest buying like a yoga DVD or something that you can do at home while she is sleeping. Even turning some music on and charismatically dancing around while picking up the house helps a little!

Pilates. Pilates strengthens your "core" which is your abdomen and back. There are plenty of exercise DVDs you can do at home whenever you have a free minute. One thing my Pilates instructor says is to "pull your naval to your spine" which means, in English, suck in your belly! LOL. The act of sucking in your stomach strengthens it. A trick my mom used was every time she entered a doorway she would suck in her stomach. As a result, she had a flat stomach.

Hope some of these ideas work and THANK YOU for your sacrifice as a military family!

I think the best idea is to join a local gym. You can take classes, work out, and use their daycare. It's a great way to meet other moms, too.

If you don't want to/can't do that, I highly suggest Pilates! You can probably rent some videos to try them out first. I have a whole set of Windsor Pilates videos. You'll definitely want to advance quickly, so don't invest too much in the beginner videos. Pilates is the single best way to tighten the belly! Have fun!

you can use the rec facilities on post and workout for free. The daycares on post usually have an hourly babysitting service as well. If you don't want to use their gym then you might want to check out your local community center or ymca as they are usually pretty reasonable and have childcare available while you work out. Get involved in your FSG group and see if any other wives would like to get together and walk a few times a week. When the weather is cold go to the mall or maybe your school would let you walk right after school in their gym or the post gym. Tracks also work well especially with the kids. The older ones can ride their bikes and don't have to worry about street traffic while the wives with babies push the strollers. You will be surprised at how many other military wives in your unit would like to have something to be involved in and get to meet other wives.

I know I was an army wife for 12 years and some FSG groups were good and others weren't so good. I liked to meet other wives and a lot of them would come to my house and play games when the guys were gone and we had a lot of fun and everything we planned we had the kids involved. We would take the kids to McDonalds and visit while the kids were playing, go to the park, have a walk in the mall and stop for a while in the kids area so the kids could play, or go to one of the wives houses (most of the time it was mine) and everyone pitch in potluck style for dinner. No one likes to cook when the husbands are gone because there is a difference in what kids typically like and the adult type foods so we would all decide on a type of food and everyone bring something to go along with it. Tacos work well for this or have a chinese night, mexican night, or an all out potluck variety night. All it takes is getting connected with 1 or 2 wives and then they may have other friends in the company then before you know it you have at least 5-10 wanting to be involved. Those were the fun times and keeps the wives from getting lonely and depressed.

oh and Situps also help with shrinking the belly.
