Hi I had a C-Section and I would like to know if any other moms out there have successfully been able to flatten their tummy's. If so what type of exercise worked for you? I need to lose about 7-10 lbs between my stomache, thighs and arms.
Thanks for any and all advise you can give me!!!!!!!!

What can I do next?

Sharon,

I didn't have a c-section but had about that amount of weight to lose after I had my daughter 2 years ago. After working out for awhile on my own and not getting where I wanted, I worked out with Chris Hillery who is a personal trainer http://www.transformerfitness.com and just got his youth fitness certification. He had just opened his private studio and let me bring my daughter with me to work out. Since then, he has taken on several other "mom" clients who bring their kids. His prices are really reasonable ($15 per hour) and I FINALLY got back to my pre-pregnant weight after about 2 months of working out with him! He is in W. Phx and if you are interested, he can train you in his studio OR create a workout for you to do at home. He also sells the bands, balls, etc that you need to do the workouts at home. Anyway, I hope this helps. I was always a very disciplined exerciser and did cardio and weights on my own - I just needed a little extra push to get over the hump!

Spin classes for the thighs and tuckus. There is a great one at Anytime fitness. Pilate's and Yoga for the mid section, and free weights for the arms. Most workout websites have a listing of how to's for the free weights. There are some great Pilate's tapes out there. if you want to invest in home exercise, I would get the Fluidity program with the ballet bar and DVD. They do a combination of pilate's, resistance and ballet that really works. It is very straight forward and builds as you get stronger and more fit so never boring. I would also recommend looking into Gillian's books. She's the trainer from Biggest Loser. She has some great meal plans etc. for dropping the last 10-15 lbs. You can find her book at any Target. Good Luck, it will be totally worth it!

Flexees!!!
I had a difficult delivery and birth, an emergency C section. My stomach has never returned to normal and seems like I will always have a pauch. So, I wear undergarments that take care of it.

You should check out www.babybootcamp.com! It is a fantastic workout and you can bring your baby with you. All instructors are nationally trained personal trainers. Plus, you get to meet other moms with kiddos your age. By far, the best program out there!

Hi Sharon,

I also had a c-section and I will admit that my stomach never returned to normal. However, with good cardio and some pilates, my tummy isn't too bad.

I believe my stomach muscles responded best to pilates type excercises such as the plank and v-hold. I bought a basic pilates dvd "Pilates Workout for Dummies" (instructor is Michelle Dozois) and did the work at home when my daughter was sleeping. It really strengthened my core and lower back and my abs appeared flatter or as flat as can be expected. The dvd has beginner and intermediate instruction. The moves are basic and make sense and the instructor is excellent as explaining how to do them etc.

My daughter is now 3 1/2 and I still do the pilates moves and still reap the benefits.

Good luck.

I have heard that this DVD is good: Lindsay Brin's Postnatal Boot Camp with Moms Into Fitness

The important thing is that you do a post-natal workout to get the muscles working that are underneath the extra weight versus the outer abs - otherwise you'll never lose the baby pooch. I had a c-section 4 weeks ago and can't wait to start this DVD myself.

Good luck! Oh, and SOuth Beach Diet has always worked for me - it helps you lose the belly fat first.

Hello there. I had a C-section 7 weeks ago now. I am by no means skinny nor is my tummy really flat. I have had success with walking and just focusing on my tightening abs while I walk. I also do kegels. Good luck.

I have had 2 C-Sections and a hysterectomy. I have one vertical incision/scar and one horizontal incision/scar. I was never able to get my tummy completely flat over the years...however, I found that the best thing that worked for me, as far as strengthening, was Pilates classes. I mostly did the floor/mat classes and found that it helped me tone my tummy up the most if I was consistent.

doing yoga helped me tone my stomache after a c section. I go to yoga classes at Bally's becuase they have child care. It's not the same as before I had my son but it's better than what it was.

I also had a C-sec 1 yr ago, after 4 days of labor. It is so hard to lose the weight, especially becuase of the trauma "down there". It was easier for me becuase i work as a professional dancer, so i suggest dancing, pilates, or yoga to my friends who ask how i lost the weight and toned up. Just make sure you do not over-stretch the areas that are still healing and take it easy. Good luck with your journey and give yourself time--don't be too critical of yourself. I didn't really lose all my weight until a full year after delivery. I'm just barely getting my body back! (it's hard too, becuase all i want to eat is sugar for some reason, ugh!)
