I live in Shoreline and am looking for a fun dance class for my 4yo son. He is all boy and loves to be active. He would love to learn how do break dance. Don't ask me how he comes up with this stuff. Does anyone know of a boy-friendly dance class in the area?

Most hip hop and break dancing classes start with older kids, but I'd check around. Try community centers, and my daughter's dance studio in Edmonds (barely out of shoreline) has all kinds of classes, google Ballet Academy of Performing Arts. How fun that he wants to dance, males are very naturally gifted when it comes to the athleticism required of a dancer! :)

Creative Dance Center is an amazing place! There are classes from parent/infant all the way up through adult with everything in between. Anne Gilbert who runs it (in it's 30th year) is a world reknowned movement educator and developer of the "Brain Dance"-also author to many great books. She trains all the teachers there and I would highly recommend it. There are lots of boys in most of the classes (my daughter is in a class for 2nd and 3rd graders and there are 8 boys in her class). There's also a professional dance company made of of children who are incredible-their annual "Gift of Dance Concert" is coming up on Sun, Dec. 6th, 3 pm at the Shorewood High School theater. This concert features the choreography of the kids themselves and it's quite impressive, inspiring and a great place for kids to get to see live dance.

As you can see I can't say enough great things about Creative Dance Center and it's not too far from you-in the Haller Lake Community Center on 125th & Densmore. Here's their website http://www.creativedance.org/ Good luck!

When I lived in Mountlake Terrace the "Mountalke Terrace Pavilion" community center (The one with the amazing pool) offered breakdancing for younger children at least a couple of times.

http://www.cameodance.com/about.html (in Bothell) has boys and girls dance class starting at age 3. Their Hip hop classes only start at age nine, but the instructor might have a good resource to point you towards.

<Grinning> I feel you though!! My son has wanted to breakdance since he was tiny. 1/2 the reason he loves gymnastics is because it teaches him new "moves" to put in kitchen & living room dance routines.

Check out the Creative Dance Center. It's amazing! I'm not sure that they offer break dance classes, but I have loved all the classes I've done with my son. And when my baby gets older, I'll be taking him to classes there as well. I can't speak highly enough about it. I think the website is creativedancecenter.org

S.,

I have just a few words for you: Dale Turner Family YMCA ###-###-####). I am a swim instructor there and I know they have various dance classes available to kids as young as 3 years old. I've seen signs all over the building for ballet, but I'm pretty sure there are other classes as well.

If you can't find what you're looking for at Dale Turner I'd also recommend looking into the Northshore Y ###-###-####) in Bothell.

Hope this helps,
Melissa
