Leather Couch Choice?

So funny because I went through a similar situation. I had a micro-suede sofa (tan though) and found it incredibly difficult to maintain with the kids and animals. It never looked too great, and I even had it professionally cleaned and the stains seemed to come right back. I bought a few different leather sofas of differing quality grades, they have all held up just fine and are so simple to clean. They still look great after 10 or more years and I am not tired of them yet either!

If you end up going with leather, make sure you get top grain REAL leather. Otherwise you'll be in a world of hurt.

We have a leather couch with two recliners. Hubs wanted it, I don't really like it. Dogs aren't allowed on furniture but our cats have left many marks on it, not from scratching it, just from being on it. It seems cold too. But what I dislike most about it is sitting on it in the summer time with shorts. I stick to it, so I keep a throw blanket around to sit on. This couch is in our main living room. The couch the I picked out and love is in our basement rec room. It's a sectional, beige color, super cozy. I paid to get it stain treated at purchase time. It's held up great and we're going on 5 yrs I think. The important thing to look for is zip off cushion covers and where the filling is inside of a sort of pillow - not just loose inside the cover. This way you can take all the covers off and wash them!! I do this once or twice a year and only when I can hang the covers outside in the sunshine to dry!

seems like these people had a red microsuede couch that they cleaned themselves. here a link to how they did it and their befores and afters. i would try to clean before trashing. who knows it may look brand new if not get a new leather couch. (i have black leather, 2 big dogs, and 2 children. the previous owner of the couch had 4 kids and it still looks decent, some cracking in places and one of the arms is broken inside but heck its a 15 yr old couch (maybe even older!)

I have leather and love it. We bought from Leather Sofa Company ( not sure if they are only on TX).

Our pieces are custom made to our specs. You choose the frame, leather, how plush you want it, etc.

It's not cheap But it still looks new after several years.

My Mom always kept her couch looking nice - she never had leather.
She NEVER EVER didn't have a couch cover over it.

First of all mirco suede is not leather usually polyester. If you don't have a carpet scrubber with an upholstery attachment, rent one. There should be cleaning directions some where on the sofa. If no instructions are found call or email the manufacturer and ask them how to clean it.
Mirco suede is a very durable fabric but does require some care. I would spray it with a stain shield after you clean it.

we have two real leather couches. Cleaning is super easy.

one of my couches is slowly being destroyed, however. We bought them at the same store, paid roughly the same, but the newer couch looks 10 years older.
