LASIK Eye Surgery--bad/good Experience?

Has anybody had a good or bad experience with LASIK that you can share? And specifically, I have an astigmatism so if any of you where in that same situation, I'd love to hear your results. I have had this scheduled twice and have chickened out. Also, any recommendations on who to go to (or who not to go to)? I live in the Keller area so would prefer somewhere within 30 minutes or so. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My husband, sister-in-law, and a cousin have all gone to Clearview Laser Vision in Grapevine. They are located on 114 near Kimball Drive. None of them had any problems and would highly recommend them.

I've gone to them for routine eye exams and also will recommend from that standpoint. The staff and doctors are wonderful.

My husband had an astigmatism also and had lasik back in 1999! They undercorrected on purpose the first time and he went back for a second time and got him to 20/20! His eyes were so bad before and he was 41 when he had the surgery! Now he's 48 and still does not need glasses!

I would definatley reccomend it to anyone!

His Dr. was in mesquite so I can't reccomend anyone But beware of "salesmen" if they try to negotiate a price with you! Run Away!

I'm weighing the pros & cons of this too. I'd love to have it done, but on the horror story side, I must tell you I have a friend whose eyes were really bad (coke bottle bottom glasses) & she had it done a few years ago. At first all was great, but in the last year or year & a half she started noticing some problems w/ one & then the other eyes. She said it's like having "stars" around everything. Night vision is really bad now & I think she even said one eye is really blurry. Specialists won't even touch her for fear of blinding her. She still functions OK, but it's very sad, & she's back in glasses to make at least one eye somewhat clear!

Sorry! Not everything is 100% for 100% of the people though. Life is risk...ain't it?

I had Lasik last year, Dr. Boothe was my doctor, and I love it! My left eye was really bad and though it's not perfect vision in the left, I can see really well with it. The right turned out perfectly!

I like Dr. Boothe, his office is run very well and I believe the regiment of eye drop meds he gives people really helps reduce the number of problems and infections afterwards. I think he's great!

Good luck!

I had it in 2003 (right before I got prego with my first child). I had astigmatism too and my vision was so bad, I couldn't even make out the top letter on the chart w/o glasses or contacts. By that evening, I checked my email, watched tv and even went out to eat...seeing great the whole time.

I think you get what you pay for and would stay away from cheaper doctors. I used Dr. Henery Gelendar, who actually does cornea replacements. So, he doesn't just make money doing as many lasik surgeries as he can, he actually does surgery on the eye. PLus, he acutally corrects the botched jobs that "lasik in a box" (what I call it) places perform. So, I felt he knew what he was doing even more so that strictly lasik docs. He's in Dallas. ###-###-####.

I was really scared of the thing that held your eyelid open...more than anything else. But honestly, I didn't even notice it after the first eye was done, I was embarrassed that I can gotten so worked up and nervous over nothing!

Good luck,

I had a friend who did this about 10 years ago. She also had astigmatism. She says her eyes are gret now, but she can't drive at night b/c the lights make her vision blurry and starry. She said she doesn't regret it though.

I have heard from the more professional doctors to never have both eyes done on the same day. It's more risky in case something happens and not to trust a docter that encourages this. Also, some doctors that charge less use okay equipment (that is why their procedures cost less), but it is not as up to date and accurate as what the specialists use.

I had the surgery back in January of 2001 and I also had an astigmatism in both eyes. I too was very scared of getting it done, but it really wasn't bad at all. It was totally worth every penny. I had it done by Dr. Boothe and he did a really good job, I am 20/20 and it's awesome. Don't be scared, it's definitely worth it and if I can do it, so can you! the website is bootheeyecenter.com Good luck! :-)

I had lasik 2 years ago, with Dr. Boothe. I really loved it after about a month, but I have to say that immediately following the surgery I questioned my choice. Everyone says that it is just a quick procedure, and the actual lasik is quicky, but overall it took about 4 hours. They do this horrible thing where they suction out your eyeball to mark it. Of course you can't feel it, butI thougth I was going to freak out. Despite the calming meds they give your prior. Then there is a huge follow up procedure - goop in your eye every night, a plastic disk taped over each eye for several nights, eye drops eye drops eye drops. My son became really sick the night after I got and he was throwing up every where and I had the shields on my eyes. It was a mess. Anyway, that is how it went for me! It's been 2 years now and I really do love it. I had two astigmatisms too, by the way.
