Hi, I was wondering of anyone has any probs with this:

I had a miscarriage back in February and now that I am 4 mos. pregnant with my new baby, my ob is driving me nuts. The baby is developing fine and nothing is wrong wih her. But my ob has such restrictions on me it's insane. Like, I can't go swimming, paint my nails, lift more than 5 lbs., or even work out. Not even a walk around the block. I am nearly 5 mos. along and my body is starting to take a toll. And yes I am taking my prenatals religiously. I am starting to get wrinkles in places they never existed. (and gotta love the undeniable stretch marks of baby!) but I'd really like to get back in shape (I'm only 128 lbs) while pregnant. Does anyone have advice? HELP!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well to make a long story short, my ob has lifted her restrictions and we just found out that our lil angel is a boy! Connor is due in Jamuary and he's doing great! Thx for all of the advice everyone!

A.,

You and R are very lucky to be getting another chance at your little miracle baby so don't push it because of your girlish figure. Trust me once that baby is up and running around you will be getting more excercise than you ever imagined. Just be thankful that you will be having a healthy baby and worry about the body later. You're young and it will bounce back, I promise! I was put on bed rest for the last 2 months of my pregnancy and it was NO fun but I had to do what the dr. said to keep my little guy safe. Listen to your doctor, please!

My advice is do whatever the doctor says!! Unfortunately for you it may be frustrating, but your baby is worth it!! You can get your body back after the baby is born! Trust me, I did!

Hello A.,
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Please take what I'm about to say to you, that I understand how you feel, It's an honest answer, and only saying it with love.
Not sure exactly what kind of response you are looking for, but from what I read, it seems like you are excited about this pregnancy, especially after your miscarriage. Your OB is most likely taking precautions so that you won't loose this one either. Not lifting more than 5 lbs. of weight, no swimming, unpolished nails, and stretch marks is a small price to pay for a childs security for it's life.
Lifting more than 5 lbs. will strain your abdominal muscles, puts pressure on your abdomen which may cause detachment of baby from uterus. Swimming also uses abdominal muscles to move around water. Nail polish fumes, if inhaled too much too long can get into your blood stream and cross over to your baby, 'cause everything you eat drink, and inhale will affect your baby, and when you breast feed, anything you eat crosses over to your milk. I ate buttered popcorn and then breast fed my son, he passed pop-corn smelling gas!
I was seven months pregnant with my daughter when I was 18 and I was put on bed rest for 2 1/2 months, just laying in bed doing nothing but watch tv, can't even walk outside. It drove me nuts. It was worth it, just to keep her from coming out early, so that her lungs will develop more in order to survive on her own.
Concentrate on your baby, you won't be on these restrictions for long, Worry about getting back in shape when your doc says it's ok to do so. understand the reason why your doc wants you in such strict restrictions.
Keep yourself busy, you have plenty to prepare for, keep educating yourself on babies growth, if you attend church, there are churches that offer parenting classes.
It sounds like this is your first baby, and between the age of 18-25.......Just having those 2 factors together means that you should'nt have any problems loosing the weight after having the baby.
Eight years after I had my daughter, I had my son at 27, At 18 I was 105 lbs. at 27 I was at 115 lbs. now at 30 I am at 113 lbs., So don't worry, you'll get your body back, you will have the baby to keep you busy, and if your're determined enough and still have some energy, you can work it all out.

I hope this helps,
Your in my prayers,
God Bless,
K.

Have you considered a different provider's advise? It doesn't hurt to get another dr or practitioners advise. If everything is going fine and having no problems, can't understand why you are so limited. If you do have some problems or complications that may why he is being so cautious.

You need to listen to your doctor. If you think this baby is a miracle baby then don't push it. You can get your body back later. I'm not thin but do have several friends that are always working out that could not work out while pregnant and look great now. It is only a few months out of your life please take your dr's advise. It will be worth it. Baby's are a miracle.

Hi A., Unfortunately it is better to be safe than sorry. It looks like you are being treated as a high risk pregnancy. I am in the same boat. I have a high risk pregnancy with so many ristrictions, that I know for a fact the only thing I am allowed to do is breathe! But I am on my second high risk pregnancy and the fortunate thing is you will have plenty of time once the baby is born, to get back into your normal routine. I would advice you to listen to your doctor so that if anything happens, you know you did as you were suppose to do. Good luck and before you know it, the little one will be in your arms.

I will not pretend to know more than your doctor. And I of course do not know all the details of your case or of your sad loss. However, I thought I'd share a thought I had. My husband and I lost our first baby to anencephaly (an incompletely formed skull exposing the brain to spinal fluid). Her case was so severe that she could not live outside the womb. Some can live for minutes, hours, days - depending. Anyway, I'm telling you this only to set my story, not to freak you out. After she died, I too then had a miraculous pregnancy after that. And even after all the terrible things that occured the first time, our OB recognized that every single pregnancy is different (unless you have specific health conditions causing your OB to suspect the same terrible results this time). At some point, unless the OB has logical reason to put you through this ~ in my opinion, it is time to live normal and not carry around the fear of the first loss. There is no reason why you can't question and even challenge the OB's actions.
I wish you the best!
A.

Is it too late for what? Getting back in shape? Since you are only about 5 months pregnant, you really need to pay attention to the drs. Think about the baby and not what your body is starting to look like. Trust me you will get bigger before you know it. You can get back in shape after the baby is born. Your only priority right now should be the health of your unborn child.

I can understand your OB-it's their job to be totally about the baby. And really I say it's not worth the risk. Be happy, eat well and enjoy this time when you don't have to worry about your waistline. If you are already thin you will probably bounce right back like I did and you can really tone and trim when you have baby at your side. Also if you were thin to begin with like I was, it seems stretch marks are your badge of honor for being a mom. They will fade--it's just until January--right?!! At least you are not on bedrest--be thankful for that. You said this was your miracle baby--don't take a chance with that!!!

Have fun--being pregnant is a blast--and you can look so cute and sexy in the latest maternity wear anyway!!!

God Bless!!
