In Doubt of My Pediatric Dentist

Getting good/reliable dental and medical care is one of the more difficult things about always moving and not knowing anyone to get good recommendations.. so here it is. I found a pediatric dentist, as per my insurance co. and am questioning the work. My daughter has 8 cavities!! Yes, EIGHT. 3 of which need crowns due to the amount of decay. He claims that the best kind to use are silver. Due to her age and the cost and the fact that by the age of 12 she will lose these teeth and be rid of this ugly silver ones that now 2 sit in the back of her mouth. Yes, you can see them when she laughs. Not sure if there is a pediatric dentist in the area that I can double and triple check this. Doing the best for my little one is priority and not sure if my vanity is getting in the way. If that is what other dentists tell me, then it is what it is. What we have to pay out of pocket is a bit pricey as it is. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

wouldn't hurt to see another dentist for another look. We go to Dr Cliff Hartmann in West Allis. He is really good with our son, who is 3 yrs old.

My son had four cavities right up front - he had next to no enamel on his teeth. The first pediatric dentist recommended ADULT crowns - can you believe it? We ditched him, and went to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. They had child-size crowns (they are not technically crowns but they are white) put on, and you would never know the difference. I think silver is ok for the back where it's not noticeable, but anything visible should be white. The social stigma would be terrible with the silver, and that weighed heavily in our decision to ditch the by-the-book compassionless guy for our dentist at Children's. Dr. Barbeau and Dr. Post are both excellent but I don't know if they are accepting new patients. Also, since they are running the residency progam, they are on the cutting edge of what is new in pediatric dentistry. Good luck!

I would find that rather shocking too. We've been pleased with our kids' dentist. They're located in Brookfield, right on BlueMound road. We've only had one cavity so far and they used a white filling. You can check out their website: www.thefunkidsdentist.com.

Best of luck!

C.,

I have worked in the dental field for 5 years and never heard of that. I think he is trying to get money out of you. My daughter (she is 22 months) sees a Pediatric dentist in Menomonee Falls whom I worked for until I had her (I am a SAHM) and he is excellent. He, however is not excepting new patients, but there are 2 other Pediatric dentists that she could see. The name is Ridgeview Dental Group ###-###-####.
I hope you can get some answers. Good luck
