I'm Moving to Houston and I'm Looking for the Best School Districts

I am moving to Houston in the next few months and I would like some input on what are the best areas in terms of schools. From some information I found on the internet it said that Spring and Cypress-Fairbanks had good school systems. Can anyone confirm that, or tell me other areas in the North and West areas of Houston that are known for their schools? Does anyone know a website where areas are rated in terms of their neighborhoods and schools? Thank you!!!

What can I do next?

Most school districts in houston are good except Houston I.S.D and they have good schools only if you go to the rich areas like the Heights. Any other district is greater than Houston I.S.D

We relocated and our reltor really helped us here. Klein has great schools, everyone will tell you the same. Go check out the site and see for yourself. If you need a realtor I know of a wonderful woman by the name of Tricia Tierney who can help you get into the school district you want.

My mother-in-law and husband work in the Cy-Fair school district and they say that they are really good schools. Of course every district will have their problems, but according to them, Cy-Fair and Spring are the best. So, I would say that the internet hit it right on the head! Good Luck, hope this helps!!

Private School. lol

no just kidding, Klein School District is "the best" but it just depends on what you consider the best. they can train their students to pass standardized tests and that is all they really focus on. to me that is not "the best" i want a school that will care about my child and that they are actually learning not teaching them how to pass tests. we will be moving before my kids start school so that my kids can go to magnolia isd.

Hi A.,

I haved lived in Spring my enitre life, and attended Klein Schools (KISD), and now my son does also. We love KISD and it's a wonderful school district. Spring is divided by KISD and Spring ISD... Klein is the the better school district by far. Also, if you want to go a little bit further North out near Conroe, Montgomery ISD is excellent. If you go to har.com you can find out alot of useful information there, like demographic, drop our rates, etc for all areas in Houston and surrounding areas... just hit the school finder option when you open the website. If you need more help, let me know and I can explain it in more detail... the website is pretty easy to follow however. Good luck with the move!

I moved to Spring from Galveston 3 years ago. I picked where I was going to live by studying the school ratinga and even visiting the schools themselves. It is a personal and financial decision for yourself but I can tell you my findings. Cyfair has the best academic ratings and is prodominately caucasian, the real estate is on a higher scale. I found Klein to be the best in academic and cultural diversity as well as the real estate being moderately priced. My children have been at Benfer elem. in klein and we love it!! The teachers are caring and they do teach more than standardized testing skills. Hope this helps...

Hi, A.

I'm new to this website but saw your question about school districts in Houston and thought I could help. Well, I would recommend, Cypress-Fairbanks and/or Katy. My children currently attend Cypress-Fairbanks and I can confirm that they are good for our children. I communicate a lot with the teachers and the school reaches out to you when it comes to your children.

Also, being new to Houston, if you need help purchasing or finding the right home on our area I would be glad to help. I'm a loan officer with a mortgage company(Financial Capital Mortgage) and I could assist you with your move. You can email me at ____@____.com.

My suggestion is Klein ISD. We lived in Spring ISD when my girls were younger, yet attended private Lutheran school through 8th grade.
We knew many great kids in our neighborhood that attended the public schools there and did well -- it really depends on your child and how you think they'll handle certain school situations.
As high school approached, and knowing my kids, we sold our house in SISD and moved to Klein ISD so that they'd have a better education with less "social problems". Yes, all schools have their share of "issues", especially high schools, but we've been pleased. And an even better plus is that homes in KISD hold their value in comparison.
Good luck with your decision and hope it goes well -- our children are the future!!

I am in Katy isd now, but have been in cyfair isd for the past 2 years. So far, Katy has a great reputation for high standardized test scores and the likes, which seems to me to be their focus among other things. Cyfair is comparable better to me. They are more student oriented than being driven by stats. I have had 4 children in cyfair and presently have 3 in Katy isd. I recommednd cyfair. We are looking to purchase a home in cyfair's district to get out of katy's district. katy is an awesome place to L.!!!!!!!!! But I have had the opportunity to compare school districts and I have worked in Cyfair isd also.

I highly recommend the schools in the Woodlands. We are in Conroe ISD. There is a Catholic school that is K-8 (St. Anthony of Padua) and there are several private schools -- Woodlands Academy Prep; Woodlands Christian Academy; and The John Cooper School. These schools have testing and admissions standards. We are in the Public school system and I can tell you without question that our schools are outstanding. (Our particular elementary is Galatas Elementary K-4; then Mitchell 5-6; McCullough 7-8; Woodlands High School 9-12). There are 2 schools in the back of the WL that are K-6 Coulson Tough and Deretchin.

These schools all feel like private schools. One of my children needed additional services due to his ADD / Aspergher's diagnosis. The school resources and support have been amazing. The scores of the schools are the some of the best in all of the public schools and the involvement of the parents in the schools is great.

GOOD LUCK!!

You can go on the internet and look up the schools for yourself. Check out each district and the schools within those districts. You'll find test scores and so many other things that will help you decide. HISD usually gets a bad wrap, but there are more than 300 schools within HISD. We are in the Northwest side of Houston and I wouldn't want my daughter to go anywhere but Wainwright, where she has been for six years.
The advantage within HISD is that as long as you are zoned to an HISD school, you can transfer your child to any school within HISD. You're not set on just those within the feeder pattern in which you live.
Go on the websites for each school and see for yourself. Click on every available link for any school you choose and compare all the info that you find. Then you'll be able to choose the right one for yourself

Cypress Fairbanks ISD is one good school system. They are in the process in buiding a new elementry school and they just finished building a new middle school called Hopper Middle School. They are also in the process of building a new high school, but I do not know the name it will be. If you decide you don't want to go to Cypress Fairbanks, try Katy ISD. I do not know anything about it but I am sure it is a really good school district.
Love,

Where are you moving from? Are your kids in private or public school? All of the school districts I read about in the responses you received are good. My kids are in Magnolia ISD and I love it. We moved here a little over a year ago and considered moving to the Woodlands. We were coming from a subdivision where the houses were close together so we decided not to live in the Woodlands. We found a great house on 2 acres in a subdivision with a beautiful lake. My husband wanted land in the country, I wanted to have neighbors to socialize with so we found the perfect compromise. We live on the west side of Magnolia. You can probably find a little bit better prices on the west side because the east side is growing like crazy. A close friend of mine used to teach in the Cy-Fair district (for 10 years) and she thought the district and schools were too big. She recommended Magnolia ISD and Montgomery ISD. (She teaches in Montgomery now)
Good luck!
