I need your recommendations on great subdivisions to live in in the Houston area. My husband may be taking a job that would be housed downtown, but we do not want to live in Houston proper. We are hoping to find a great place to live somewhere on the outskirts of town with an exemplary elementary school, homes that sit on 1+ acre lots, and plenty of kids in the area. My husband is willing to commute from as far as Willis. We have already been perusing www.har.com for houses for sale, but we can't tell much about the subdivisions in which they are located. Can you give me any recommendations? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! : )

What can I do next?

Acre lots in a good school district are hard to find unless you have a big budget or are willing to have a loong commute.

If you don't mind me asking what is your budget? (I'm a native Houstonian, grew up on the NW side of town but now live S of Houston)

I found this map, little outdated but it gives you an idea of locations /distances:

Basically in-town you have spring branch ISD.

S of town you have Clear Creek, Pearland, and Friendswood ISDs.

W of town you have Fort Bend and Katy ISDs.

N of town is Cy-Fair, Klein, and Humble ISDs.

Klein ISD is one of the top ISD's in Houston. It is north of downtown. Spring/Woodlands area. Some great subdivisions are Springbrook, Windrose. They are located in a great area, lots of shopping, close access to Highways and Metro Park n Ride (for your hubby going downtown). Check it out! Best of luck to you!

I live in Sienna Plantation on the SW side of Houston. It is a master planned community with 3 exemplary elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. There are homes of all sizes, 4 pools (two of which are "resort" pools/water parks, small neighborhood parks all over the place, "Camp Sienna" which has soccer and baseball fields, horse stables, a library....you name it, it's here. I love living here!

Good luck with your search. I know there are some great neighborhoods in Katy and the Woodlands also, but you would just have to check into how long your hubby's commute would be.
