Ideas for Activities to Do with 16 Month Old Boy

Okay, I have the girl activities down pat with my daughter. From a young age she has loved to do puzzles, paint, color....my boy--not so much. He does love to do things with us, but it's because he wants to participate. However, coloring and painting is pretty wild when we include him. He does like puzzles, putting things together, undoing things. What are some good activities to do inside the house (on those yucky rainy days)? What are some good toys that keep boys intrigued? He will be the boy that takes stuff apart and tries to put it back when he is older...he unscrewed the door stopper from the floor at the doctor's office!

What can I do next?

Blocks, cars, legos, boxes all shapes and sizes taped so he can use them as GIANT blocks. Wooden Train set.

I gave our nephews a wooden box that had all kinds of different latches and locks.. they loved it..

Pop up tents. I used to let our daughter use every pillow cushion and blanket in the house to build forts in the living room.

A giant refrigerator box with holes cut out like windows.. Laundry basket to pretend it is a car or train.. Toy grocery cart with play food, and cash register.

A toy work bench.

Oh, I'd honestly recommend investing in some Duplos and letting him go crazy with taking them apart and putting them together. Both our son and daughter LOVE playing with their Duplos.

Matchbox cars are great (some people may disagree because they say ages 3+). Our son's been playing with them since he was about 11 months - he's 3.5 now and hasn't had a single wheel come off.

Stacking anything is great for boys that age. They're really not understanding of gender differences, so whatever you did with your daughter at that age would likely be completely appropriate for him, too.
