Hello Wonderful Moms!

I have a new question for you - I had a c-section 7 months ago...the docs said the scar of the incision would fade with time, but hasn't really changed yet. If you have had any experience with products that work to reduce the appearance of scars, please let me know! Thanks in advance for your help!

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the advice. I was sure that with time, the scar would probably fade a little and thanks for the confirmation from those who have had c-sections years ago. In the meantime, I have a wealth of options to try...thanks so much!

Try a product called Pentaxyl . . It was made for reducing the appearance of stretch marks and smoothing out wrinkles but I have a friend that had a tummy tuck and she used the Pentaxyl on her incision and it healed much quicker than normal (her doctor was amazed) plus it took out the redness so it doesn't look at noticeable. You can only get it thru www.marketamerica.com

try cocoa butter, its in the isle with the body creams. Or you can try vitamin E (not a pill, but a gel to rub on the scar). It will take a longgggg while, at least a year or so.

REAL PURE AFRICAN SHEA BUTTER...I have been using this on my entire body, especially my stretch marks, feet and toes, elbows, knees, hands, etc and even the dark circles (I use to have under my eyes)...This is some Miracle Stuff, everyone should use it. Great for scars, dry skin, everything... If you can't find it go online...I usually buy mine from Harlem, New York, Downtown Brooklyn (by the court houses) and/or Atlantic Avenue. Go to the Search engine and type in Pure African Shea Butter...

Hi J.,
My dermatologist told me to use Mederma and silicone patches that you cut to fit the scar. At night I would massage the Mederma into my scars and let it dry, then apply the siicone patches, which I cut into strips slightly wider than my scars. I wear the silicone patches during all the time, except in the summer, but that is because I tend to run extremely hot and don't like the feel of the patches when I am hot. Anyway I used them on my c-section scars, which were 19 years old and now you can't see them anymore. I still use them and the Mederma on my breast scars, which are only a year and 8 months old and have seen a drastic reduction in their visibility in only a few months. If you decide to try it let me know what you think.
Hugs,
T.

I've heard Mederma works wonders on scars of any kind.

Many years ago my mother in law had a terrible scar on her leg. She took vitamin E capsules, broke them open and rubbed it on the scar. Within a few months you could barely see the scar.

I agree with the mederma...and also want to add...that keep all scars protected with sunscreen(not that I am picturing you running out in a bikini right now, but for those future cuts and scrapes on your childs face and limbs).

J.,

Good morning. this may seem a little odd but I am a consultant for Arbonne and there eye cream has lighting agents in them for dark circles under the eyes however people use it for acne scars it may help with that since it has the lightening agents in it. If you are interested let me know, there is also a 45 day money back if you are not happy with it. Best of luck.

I actually have been going for monthly cortisone shots at the dermatologist b/c I got keloids on my scar (it's just raised and bumpy scar tissue). Depending on how bad it is, you get it for a different # of months- I have one more session and it'll be my 5th set of injections. They're not very painful- just little pricks and they can give you numbing cream if you want. It's covered bt insurance so I only pay a copay each time and I think it's worthwhile. It doesn't make the scar totally go away, but it definitely flattened mine out and it faded too. Good luck!

My doctor has told me to try Vit E oil - just cut open a capsule and squeeze oil and rub into the area - it helped with some scars I had from moles being removed. I have also hear that Jurlique has a cream that is good for scars - I think it is their calendula cream. Calendula is an herb that is supposed to have healing qualities.

All natural vitamin E capsules; silicone patches used for burn victims scars (drug stores have them); shea butter, raw honey...a combination of these things perhaps!

It takes several years for a scar to fade, not months. You can use Vitamin E to massage the scar. It helps to fade the scar much quicker then leaving it alone. If you do it daily, like every time you get out of the shower, it works great.

We have alot in common...I'm also a cloth diapering, breastfeeding mother who also had a c-section. My daughter is 8 months old. My scar itches and is still raised. In a spot near the edge it has become flat and hardly noticable. I think the rest will fade to match eventually. It just takes time. We have to be patient.

I had a c-section 18 years ago when my son was born. the scar is beautiful. you can't even see it. i would have to say it takes about a year or so before you don't see it. or you can try coco butter i hear thats great also. congrats on your little bundle of joy and relax about the scar it will fade.

I don't know. I was wondering the same thing. My son was born Jan 29 and my scar is still pink. But it's not a big deal. It's so low no one will ever see it anyway. I bought some vitamin E oil and it might have helped a little but I think it just needs time.

J.,

It's been a little over a year - I don't know what your doc had in mind for a time frame - maybe you might ask.

My understanding from what I've read is that nothing will take away a scar - short of plastic surgery, and that's not a guarantee.

Is it bikini line or is it higher?

Just be careful with that skin no matter what you do - it's probably not tender anymore, but too much stress (chemical peels or whatever) and it might become so again.

I've tried the Palmer's on my scar but I think time is really going to be the only factor. Mine is only slightly raised now - but a bigger problem is the Dunlop spare tire that hangs over it. :) THAT is something I want to get rid of!

Good luck,
M.
